Please read the od article regarding the Whitestown highway superintendent's double dipping.

http://www.uticaod.com/topstories/x713422811/...

I know of at least two family men who are not working and a state job would be an answer to their prayers.

Shame on you Sal Granato and shame on whoever hired him.

Its pension padding. Clearly he is not needed for Town business as they manage without him. What a scumbag this guy is to go and brag about it. There are many who have no job then there is this guy sponging off the system. Now you know damn well he will retire soon and this is merely his way of padding his pension.

An elected highway superintendent only has to show up once a day am or pm, for an hour or so, to give instructions to the Town's employees. There is no law saying that he/she can't have a P/T or F/T job elsewhere. You people need to know what the law is before you shoot your mouths off. The best sup't.s are working or retired county or state highway workers. In other words, trained professionals.

Who gives a f*#k about what the "law" says! Just because it's the "law" doesn't make it ethical, moral, or right. It was the law during the Third Reich in Nazi Germany to kill Jews, did that make it right? It was the law to have slaves in this country at one time. Did that make it right. Obviously the laws were made by legislators who by their nature are parasites, just like this scumbag Granato. Who does this fat f%*k thinks he works for?

I understand your point about the law, but nonetheless disagree with your conclusion. I certainly agree that the highway superintendent should be a trained professional, but I also think that the superintendent must spend his full time on the town highway job. I do not believe that this is accomplished if he is working 2 full time jobs. The fact that it is legal is beside the point. Is it fair to the town and taxpayers? I don't think so.

That is where you are wrong. Public Officers Law as well as conflict of interest and Outside Employment Policies all figure in to this mix.

He can have another job elsewhere but he needs to get approval from his employer first.

Interesting that Mr. Granato admitted that he has his town employees call his cell during the state job... One obvious complaint with that, he is just a busy as the typical DOT employee if he has time to deal with his other job on state time. You can debate the law and ethics all day long, but there is no excuse for him doing the town job on state time. Not only is this a violation of DOT policy, IT IS ILLEGAL. You can not do two jobs at the same time. The state inspector general should investigate the activities of this guy while on the state clock, Ie: look at cell phone records and daily work assignments, any conflicts should be dealt with harshly and referred to the county District Attorney for prosecution. Even better, look at his phone records compared to overtime periods at the state. Then go after his supervisor at the state for not giving the guy enough to do, or making sure he was doing it. Funny how state workers always cry about needing more people, what they really need are people who actually do what they're paid for.

...and, investigate how he got hired. How many other qualified people were passed over so they could hire this politician. Pension padding was one of cuomos biggest concerns as attorney general, wonder how he feels now that they work for him?

Your point on the person that hired him is right on. This is a scam to pad a pension and the person that hired him is in on the scam. That person should be identifed and FIRED. All the people out these looking for jobs and this greedy no good took another job. Stealing from the taxpayers.

Lots of jealous people!! Who really cares? The guy does a great job with the town and has a second job. He has foreman that handle issues when he's not there. Nothing different then is done in any other town. If your not happy he's got a state job and a town job so be it. I'm sure he's got his ducks in line way b4 the od and you people rip him up. If there was a problem his job would have been terminated long b4 this came to light. Grow up!

Then clearly he is not needed by the Town since he has the luxury to never be at work.

This issue will ultimately be decided by the voters. If enough people are willing to overlook the ethical conflict, he has nothing to worry about. If not, he will either retire with a nicely padded pension, or revert back to a working position, which is probably less likely. Either way, after this unwanted publicity makes its way up the channels at the state, he won't be hired back next year by the DOT.

Working two jobs is what triggered this outrage.

Most of the posters immediately thought "Oh crap. This clown is working two jobs. DSS is now going to make me get one!"

This clown working 2 full time jobs is an outrage !
There's people out there looking for 1 full time job and can't find a decent one and he obviously got the 2nd job from conections. OK, so as a taxpayer the answer is to make his job with the town a PART TIME job, there is no way he is working for the town full time !!

If the job doesn't require his full time attention, he should have his pay cut. Town Board best be on top of this at next meeting, don't care how popular his relatives think he is, this will not be allowed to continue.

Poor sap, he already told the world it runs fine without him, guys know what to do without his help.

sure he should. if he is not available or needed on a full time basis you cut his pay to that of a part time employee.
