Minimum wage a form of slavery

This is why education is important. Minimum wage jobs are entry level jobs and are not intended to be a wage people are intended to live off of. Everyone needs to assure they obtain the best education possible as it affects their future...

Also, raising minimum wage is not the answer. It will result in inflation of prices and cause salaries to be raised across the board at all levels.. So if minimum wage was raised to $15 it would not improve anything in the long run...

Why stop at $15 per hour? Why not $20 or $25. Why not force all these companies to give health insurance and retirement benefits? In fact, why don't we just pay everyone the same, after all, doesn't the Constitution say all men are created equal? Why should doctors or engineers make more than cashiers and cleaners. Don't we all deserve the same from life?

Really now.

The wages paid to employees reflect the skills they have and the cost to replace them. If someone is willing to do the same quantity and quality of work you do for less than you are paid why should you be paid more than them. The fact that these workers took these jobs knowing the wages they would be paid, why do they believe they are suddenly worth more. Why do they believe it is the company's responsibility to make them happy. It is their choices that put them where they are.

Where did you got the "fact" that "4 out of 5 student that receive a education do not get a job when they get out of college"? This is blatantly untrue. They may not get a job in the field they were educated in immediately after graduating, but that doesn't mean that will never work in that field or that their education was a waste. Statistics show that college graduates make on average about $40,000 more a year than non-graduates after 10 years of leaving college.

If fast food workers made a higher wage and had health benefits, then the tax payer would not have to have their taxes raised to support the working poor who would require government assistance cause their pay is so low. Their is a man/woman with a master's degree that I know personally that is working at Arby's and he/she is not a manager. Unfortunately these are the low grade jobs that are the only one's hiring because of corporate greed. And you think we need more lawyers in this country?

What do you think will happen to people who are making $15 per hour now when the minimum wage goes up? Do you think they will be happy making the same wages as a fast food worker or do you think they will want more money also? If employers give raises to those people wonít they need to give raises to all their employees? Donít you think this will cause inflation in the marketplace? What about the companies that employ minimum wage workers? Do you think they will pay these additional wages out of their profits or do you think they will raise their prices to cover them? I sure they will reduce the number of employees as far as possible and then raise prices to cover their increased cost of labor. This will have the effect of raising unemployment numbers (especially among low wage workers) AND increasing inflation. The increase in inflation will reduce spending power and most unskilled workers will find themselves back where they started.

<quoted text>prices have been rising for the past 4 years and wages remain the same. So inflation has been happening any way. And 4 out of 5 student that receive a education do not get a job when they get out of college . So education is not thee solution . They need more jobs that pay out . This is what McDonald 's makes. The average McDonald's worldwide has sales of $1,808 per day.
This calculation is made as follows:
(1) Worldwide gross revenue for McDonald's is $20,460 million dollars per year;
(2) There are 31,000 McDonald's worldwide; and
(3) There are 365 days per year.
A simple arithmetic average is made as follows:([$20,460,000,000 / 31,000]/ 365)=$1,808.22.
Hope this helps.
and your point? You are speaking gross revenue. Need to take into account cost of food, every McDonald I have been to have probably 4-5 people working, cost of utilities, taxes, etc.... So $1802 dollars gross revenue: Let's say there were 5 McDonalds employees staffed around the clock 24 hours, you paid each employee $15/hr (or $360 per person/24 hours). Now you have 5 employees $360 for each employee times 5 equals $1800. This does not even consider the other costs of operation. McDonalds either closes their doors or raises prices.

Hope this helps...

I can barely get by on my benefits. If I was to get a job, I would need more than $15 an hour to break even.

If you want more then educate yourself. Make yourself more valuable to employers. Take personal responsibility. If you barely(not barley, they use that in beer manufacture) get by then it's up to you to do something about that. Just because you can't afford to live the lifestyle you wish for doesn't mean your employer and his/her customers should have to foot the bill.

Raise the minimum wage and companies will lay off some workers and make the rest work harder to make up the labor shortage.

After that you'll have some employees making $15 an hour and the rest will be unemployed. Which is better a minimum wage job or no job?

Some fast food chains are starting to move towards automation to take orders directly from the customers who use tablets to make their orders. There is a start up firm called "E Le Carte" and another called "Presto" being introduced by Appleby's that when calculated only costs 42 cents an hour to operate. It also doesn't need to be trained, never calls in sick and doesn't complain how underpaid it is.

There are also systems being developed to cook and assemble food without human hands which will also put people out of work.

Especially if those human hands cost $15 an hour.

There should be no minimum wage period because it should be up to the employer and employee and not the government to determine what he or she is paid.

I have 6 years of college and 2 degrees and I make only $10.25 an hour. I pay over 500 dollars a month just for student loan payments! If I could go back, I would have skipped college and went into the service.

The world is designed to weed out the weak an less intelligent or the system would be consumed by the weak like it has become.

Lower the min wage to 3.10 an allow them to die off, then the elderly can take the part time jobs giving better service to the consumer then what they must deal with now due to the lowlifes in place. Stop welfare.

From the content and grammar of your post, it's obvious why you are only worth a minimum wage job. Lol!

Minimum wage is not a form of slavery because you have the choice to try and do better for yourself. Nobody is holding you back but yourself. Sure the job market is tough but that's no excuse not to try to better for yourself or your family instead of blaming someone else for your own shortcomings in life. Nobody is forcing you take a minimum wage job, but if that's all you can find or all that you are capable of, then you need to work a little harder at finding a better job, moving somewhere else, or educating yourself so you can be more attractive to a potential employer. Until then, you're just looking for a handout from someone else.

These people are all whiners. A degree isn't that hard to get including Masters. This is what you deserve when your parents yammer on more about your "football career" than anything else in your education. Cause and effect don't cry now because my 401k is maxed out and the kids I don't even have have their college paid for if they want it. WTF is so hard for uticans to grasp here? I call it learned poverty and learned appelachinism. They truly deserve what the get because they wanted it that way.
Who am I to care?
