Clearly, 30 years of ridiculously low Tax rates for the wealthy has not created any "Trickledown" not even a "Drip". Reagan's policies combined with Clinton's disastrous trade agreements and welfare reform, have decimated the Middle Class.
We need to roll back the Reagan Tax Cuts, and abandon these "Free Trade" agreements and go back to the Protectionist Trade policies that made us the manufacturing power house that we were for 200 years.
You're comparing apples to oranges.

When Ronald Reagan was President there were 200 million people in this Country. Now there are 300 million.

You can't bring Reagan's economic policies to modern day as we've overpopulated so quickly. It took 120 years for the United States to grow from 100 million to 200 million people. Only 30 years to go from 200 million to 300 million.

In theory, Reagan is/was spot on. There's just too many people now. We've become a Country in which 19 people apply to build the rich guys yacht now, when in 1984, only 4 applied.

I agree with you on NAFTA too. Bogus deal. Clinton/Gore get a free pass on that from the Liberal media.

Unfortunately you're correct. The unofficial "Fourth Branch of Government" has become the Liberal media.

But with that said, who deserves the blame? The Liberal media or the American idiots/sheeple who can't think for themselves or are too busy worrying about Kim Kardashian to follow politics and the real world????????

Both? Who knows? We're doomed. Overpopulation!!!!!!

<quoted text>So do you believe you should each build our own roads? Or should we pool our resources build the roads together and share them?
What I believe is that our federal government should follow the US Constitution as written and ratified or, we should have to use the amendment mechanism to change it if we need to. If James Madison couldn't find any power in the US Constitution for the federal government to finance roads, bridges and canals then I have to go with what he said. He was there. Helped craft it and the writings that explained it.

The "Federalist" was written as a primer for those who were about to vote for or against ratification of the Constitution. It was in response to anti-Federalists who felt the Constitution provided for a federal government that was too strong. The "Federalist" was meant to calm those fears. Now, post FDR's unconstitutional New Deal we have the federal government that the anti-Federalists were worried about.

Something can be a good idea and still be unconstitutional. You are advocating for a federal government with no limits on its' power. Seems to me our founders fought a war to free us from that type of thing.

As for your "we are all in this together philosophy" I would say this. If we were truly all in this together then everyone would be paying federal taxes. Under the current progressive tax system a full 47% of working Americans pay no federal tax at all with a small percentage of those actually getting a refund because of tax credits. If we were all in this together then everyone would have some skin in the game. The way it is now it seems like the half that don't pay get to dictate how the money the other half kicks in gets spent. Does that sound like "we're all in this together"?

It's not enthusiasm they lack. They have that. What they lack are facts to substantiate their opinions.

What lie is it you are referring to?

And you believe that it was President Reagan's economic policies that caused the change?

What about increased automation and the increased role of computers in the workplace?

What about the emergence of a true global economy?

Things like that played no part?

No one is saying it was just Reagan's policies that caused the change. Are you intentionally distorting what other's say to defend the right wing agenda?

There's plenty of blame to go around, including what you listed above. But, why is it you always leave out the role that corporate control of Washington has played in all of this? Why no mention of Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan , and their Ilk? Like all the other right wing stooges, you keep the focus on the poor. They're easy to blame, aren't they? They don't own media empires, or Washington lobbyists. Of course , able bodied folks should work for their money. But, then you would scream "Socialism!"

You don't seem to have a problem with corporate lobbyists owning Washington. How do you feel about the Citizens United decision?

You sound like a banker, who is trying to justify your part in all of this..

Do you believe Corporate profits continuing to increase while workers see no increase in pay is OK?, and CEO pay going from an average of 30 times the average worker in 1980 to 500 times now is acceptable?
The combination of dropping the top marginal tax rate from 70% to 39%, joining NAFTA, GATT and the WTO and permanent normal trade relations with China. So, was it all Reagan? No, but when you look at the big picture of our economy now, compared to before The Reagan revolution, you must admit we're pretty well F**KED.

In a 1966 article - TIME magazine looking ahead toward the future - and what the rise of automation would mean for average Americans, what the article was about. It concluded:

By 2000, the machines will be producing so much that everyone in the U.S. will, in effect, be independently wealthy. With Government benefits, even nonworking families will have, by one estimate, an annual income of $30,000-$40,000.
Now, that was in 1966 dollars, it would be like $100,000,$120,000 a year now.

It was going to be called "The Leisure Society". What changed? Deregulation, regulatory capture, and the corporate takeover of our country, in short, our own modern version of Mussolini's dream. Fascism

Thanks to a right wing Supreme Court we are now a combination of Plutocracy, Oligarchy and Corpratocracy,. Modern Legalized Fascism.

I'm not distorting anything. The person who posted the Reagan comments has a strong record of posting his/her socialist views here on topix. It was he/she who ignored real history and facts in placing so much blame on the Reagan administration. History tells a different story than what he/she portrayed and I proved that citing facts. Your post as it relates to me and my views is another shing example of "if you can't refute the message, attack the messenger".

There is plenty of blame to go around. I've said that before. I've also said that if banks and investors have done something that is against the law then arrest those responsible, try them in a court of law and then lock them up if they are found guilty. No one should be above the law. The fact that doesn't see the light of day very much is that what banks and investors did for the most part was not only legal but had the blessing of the U.S. government because the legislators thought those policies would lead to a re-distriibution of wealth. It did, but only for a little while.

Here's what I think about the Citizen's United decision. There is part of what happened that we don't hear much about. That case was a move by the left to get corporate money out of politics. Admirable goal. But, it only works if union money is excluded as well. The left wanted to take the voice and access of business away while leaving organized labor's and other special interests(like GE's environmental lobby) intact. I'm guessing that in your world that would be okay but any fair and objective analysis of the problem would show that it isn't. Do I like all of the money in politics? No, but you can't limit one group and not limit all. If you want to get all special interest money out of politics I'm with you.
