<quoted text>No, I would rather it go back to taxpayers.

Barring that I would rather it go to infrastructure and education.

It only works the way it does because taxpayers allow it to happen.

I don't know what your interests are other than you seem to enjoy hockey. Would you feel the same if that same money was being spent on a new venue for the Players of Utica? How about if the same funding went to the Distance Running Hall of Fame? How about a center for black cultural studies? Would you be in favor of those? I'm asking because there would be plenty of people who would very much in the same way you are for public financing of this AHL hockey scheme.
I wouldn't care as long as its spent here. I don't watch hockey...never have. It doesn't matter where the state dictates it be spent as long as its here. By the way it's for the improvement of the Aud which hosts a lot of thinks other than hockey.

Bottom line is the state won't give it back and it was earmarked for projects like this...not education or infrastructure.

Why are you suck a nay sayer? Take it and be happy. Stop being a grump.

You are correct businesses will be opening all around Utica, filling vacant buildings and paying property taxes just because we now have an AHL team. The Chip Plant announcement is soon. Go Comets!!
Good luck with the chip plant. Lol

And yes the region will benefit alone from ticket and concession sales. Dont forget hotel rooms and other restaurants. Also one business is already opening as a result of the team.

the region will benefit, but other than restaurants and hotels, and maybe a printer, basically nothing else in utica will benefit from the team. thats the problem with utica, theres no money there so why would anyone open a business there?? all the growth is in new hartford, marcy, whitesboro, the suburbs where the money and a competent workforce is. thats why utica itself continues to go down hill... no one wants to work, no money, no way to cash flow a business, so why would the state wanna dump money into it?? its sad...basically if it weren't for the hospitals and the mom and pop stores, they could bulldoze everything between oriskany street and the parkway and no one would care.

I agree with you but the team will benefit the region. Is a game changer? Absolutely not but it is something. Will it revitalize utica. Nope.

My crystal ball projects attendance levels at-

Week 1 - Full House
Week 2 - 2700
@eek 3 - 2400
Week 4 - 2000
Week 5 - 1800

Probably level out in the 1800 to 2000 range. Things could be better if they win and much worse if they do not...

How did they "diss" UC? UC still has the preferred home dates! If they play it right its a win- win situation for all!

utica college has not been dissed, they will still have a loyal following. you gotta remember, uc only has about 15 home games a year. comets will have 38, but that also means the comets will be away for 38 games, with some long trips for western teams. i don't see how they can't come up with 15 dates for us on the weekends......

The AHL schedule runs from the beginning of October through the end of April (7 months) and UC hockey runs 3 + months. There is plenty of room to accomodate both teams with favorable dates.

The AUD needs a make-over with no doubt. Just go down there and look at the outside bricks falling apart. The insides are kept clean but clean for a 60 year old building certainly shows its age. Bathrooms are in dire need of an upgrade for sure. Concessions need better equipment and choices. Sound system also in dire need of fixing. Parking upgrades are a must. Staff improvements as far as courtesy and having a welcoming personality must change.

I for one am happy to pay a few extra pennies to get a better quality of life in the area. Year after year how much of our taxpayers dollars go to support worthless programs and give-aways for everyone ? It is about time those that pay reap some benefits as well.

With season ticket sales around 1200 so far, if they get get to 2000 all they need to do is sell 75000 tickets for 38 games which means if 1 in 4 people in Oneida/Herkimer County purchased only 1 ticket they would seel out each game. It is not that unreasonable to think that way. Plus when Syracuse,Binghamton,Albany and Rochester play here, especially on weekends year you can take 8000 tickets off the 75000 so now we are down to 67000.

Be positive and attack those that attack the quality of life issues in our area. We do not have time for them anymore.

GO COMETS !!!!!

...so I guess the same could be said for every other sports team out there then? I mean the company I work for advertises heavily at yankee stadium citified, MSG, the meadowlands, Fenway park, etc and in those venues there are boxes where we can put in requests for seats. Most times I get in the luxury boxes. So I guess those venues should exclude those numbers from season ticket sales too? Lol

i hate to tell you this, but you also paid for the tickets as well as the advertising,,, or are you not clever enough to figure that out... the comets don't give out free tickets to people....... thats like the used car salesman saying they will through in new tires if you buy the car.. guess what... you paid for the tires.....

So, did you get the tires for free?
Did you buy the car WITHOUT the tires?
What happened?
Did the salesman THROW the tires THROUGH the window?
Please advise.
i realized the mistake of through and throw after it was posted, but you can't edit it, and no, i buy cars private or online if a dealer. but i usually get 7-10 yrs out of a vehicle.the tire reference was just a example....

theres no way the attendance will be that low, the devils averaged 2500 or so with little work. id say 3000 maybe 3200 average. a lot of kids went to those devils games and they are now parents with kids of their own.definitely gonna be a higher average.
