Go Comets

West Hartford, CT

#1 Jun 18, 2013
I've never seen such a buz for any pro hockey team in Utica like there is for the Comets. They have to be close to matching the seaaon ticket sales of any of the Devils teams after just 4 days! I credit all of the haters out there for inadvertently adding to the buz and motivating the believers to go down to the aud and buying season tickets.

Let's go Comets!

Dunderheads believe the bs of 1,000 season tickets sold. First, 90% of season tickets "sold" have NOT been paid for.

I agree, most of the people who are on this site root for failure because they have rotten, depressed lives especially people who don't live here. They have to be really bored and depressed with their lives. So sad.

You agree with what? The other 4 posters who agree with eachother that no one cares so you have to pretend everyone hates it so you have something to do and start an "issue" where none seems to exist?

What you mean by all your posts really says "I agree, we need to talk about ourselves and stir up hate because most of the people who are on this site root for controversy because they have rotten, depressed lives especially people who don't live here. They have to be really bored and depressed with their lives."

Well said. Actions speak louder than the words. So far no one is hating on hockey. But we see lots of people who like it acting like haters looking for something to whine about.

Huh? You sound like an idiot. You started a post crying about haters but nobody said anything. Now you are just babbling on because no imaginary haters showed up for you to hate on. Get a life people you aren't making yourselves look too mature here. Easy to see the post was started by the put down crew looking to put people down for nothing. Grow up.

Does this explain why you start threads called "Haters keep hating the Comets. Please!"? You DO see how pathetic that looks right?

You need to make the distinction between the Comets and using tax money to support the effort.

I don't hate the Comets. I actually like the idea of having an AHL team here. I'm not rooting for them to fail either. I think they eventually willn not because of "haters" but because economic reality will overshadow the "bandwagon effect" we are seeing now.

What I hate is this. I hate the idea of using tax money to support it at a time when the city, county and state are all in debt and raising taxes every year. In a reality based, logical listing of funding priorities an AHL team would have to be fairly low. That's why the whole Aud funding aspect of this was done in secret and then sprung on taxpayers before they had an opportunity to really think about it and respond.

First, I didn't realize you speak for everyone else in the world.

Second:
"A key draw for Vancouver was that the state will be pumping $5 million into the Utica Aud inside and out."

Read more: http://www.uticaod.com/news/x1484774957/Utica...

The AHL has standards and specifications for the venues where they allow their teams to play. Without the improvements/upgrades paid for with tax dollars - no team.

Have you not been paying attention? Your screen name seems very apt given an uninformed comment like yours.

And without the team those state funds would have went somewhere else. Would you have preferred they went to the glens falls civic center instead? Would you have preferred they were given to binghampton?

This one may be more no topic because of the source. This is Robert Esche from and interview with WIBX:

"On the total of $5 million dollars in state money that is funding upgrades at the AUD:I know this may fall on deaf ears, but I swear, it was a terrific experience dealing with our politicians. They said from day one,If you can get a team in here long term, well help you out. Esche also indicated the state assistance was a key piece of the deal"

http://wibx950.com/rob-esche-talks-about-moha...

Is there another way to read this than to say that taxpayer money was instrumental in making this happen?

I would prefer that those funds had gone back to those who paid the taxes in the form of tax cuts that would make this region more attractive to business. If business propers, we all prosper. When we all prosper, we all have more disposable income for entertainment. When we all have more disposable income for entertainment the hockey fans will demand and be able to pay for hockey without taxpayer subsidy.

If that couldn't be done then I would rather see the funds go to education, infrastructure or any of the other civic necessities that saw cuts in the most recent budget.
