First of all, Roefaro has someone else write this article for him.

Second - Roefaro is once again preaching the "How Great I am" psylosphy that he is known for.

Third, he must be looking at the City of Utica with very, very dark sunglasses as his description of how great things are and how they are getting better is NOT the truth.

What about the fact there are NO JOBS (unless Roefaro wants to put you under this Friends and Family Program), Murders go unsolved and are increasing, Taxes continue to increase despite most Utica cizitens are living on fixed incomes or Unemployment or Welfare and there is no relief or steps being taken to relieve our burden.

The only people remaining in this getto town are the people that can't afford to leave.

Rofaro why don't you leave office since your never there anyway and take all your lil friends with you.Are you that clueless that you don't reconginze that you have made a total mess of Utica and that nobody gives a dam about you or anything that you say or do.You must really believe that we actually believe everything you say and do is what we all want to hear, wrong its time to put down the comic books and come back to reality nobody wants you in office and nobody gives a damn about anything you say or do so get to getting im so tired of looking at you fat ass .Wake up and realize you a joke.Nobody takes you serious.

Geez you azzwh01ez better watch it or Tim will come up here and blast yas. I say it's a draw between Julian and Roefie there, at least you could support Julian. Roefie's a decent guy who's listened to the wrong people since ohhhhh about 1977.
I think they been doing a better job as of late but we all know it won't be long!

Alright I'm going to jump in here despite being halfway across the world. 90 percent of the bashing against Roefaro has to do with his administration being friends and people he knows. Alright what public offici hasn't done this. It pains me to be stationed overseas and see so much hate and discontent towards a public official with no offers of advice other than simply get out of office. Hands down the current economic condition of the USA sucks globally the economy sucks I live in japan for the military and when I first arrived here it was 125 yen to the dollar. Now it's 88 yen to the dollar and the federal govt wants to cut our cost of living pay by 200 dollars a month. It's not just Utica that is feeling this. With this being said how bout instead of wasting your time by crying about who's working in city hall how about coming up with strategies to bring big buisness back to Utica ever since big companies like GE left the average income has gone down replaced by wal mart style jobs. To sum up what I'm trying to say let's come up with productive incentive programs to bring big companies back to Utica and use forums like this to generate productive ideas. Constructive criticsm is good when followed with a productive solution that is reasonable. I hope to return home to Utica finding it to be a great place to start a life.
Thank you

I have to agree with you a little, about the friends and family, but Roefaro has gone far above what most public offical.
We are all suffering the money crunch, that is why it was horrible when our Mayor went against the common council and gave his friends raises.
With you being in the service, how would you feel if a service member that had not worked their way up the ranks, had retired all of a sudden was your CO or XO. You know you would has resentment.

That is why there is alot of hate with Roeforo, because he thinks his s$$t doesn't stink.

Foremost, Chris, Thank you.
Secondly, I agree with Chris. Look at what mayor roefero did- he unseated an incumbent and he had ow, the incumbent wasn't doing anything really. So, roefero won. I would have done the same thing as roefero- hired the people who proved they were loyal. People say friends and family- really thats angelo and labella. Angelo ran his relatives campaign as a recent college grad. the kid did a good job. why not keep him. i would. don't tell me none of you wouldn't. and labella was a very good cop, and a person the mayor could trust to do the job right. don't tell me labella is not producing, the guy is.

and the other thing i want to say is that i have followed utica polotics for my life. mayor roefero is always in the news doing something. julian NEVER was- we'd go months without hearing a peep. So, the media likes this mayor, they cover his good and the not so good, but let's all admit, he is doing things, and he comes out with a lot of good things, and the guy has done a lot of paving in two years.

this is the worst time to be in politics. let's remember that. roefero is just one man. i don't know him. i swear. but guess what- as of right now- i would vote for him. he's digging us out of hell. the article the other day about thr urban houses department proves that. thanks for letting me speak on here

I agree with Chris.

The entire country is in a recession/depression right now and WE all need to start thinking about new ways to stimulate our economy that is not based on government handouts.

No matter who is in the mayor’s position (s)he will be in the same fix. The definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing the same way and expecting different results.

If you believe that nothing will change no matter what we do then stop reading this now curl up in a ball and vegetate.
I don’t have all the solutions, if I did I would be rich. But I do have a few ideas of how to start making sustainable change. Accept it for what it is – food for thought.

First stop complaining and looking at the negative – that’s too easy.

Second take a look around and see what some of our assets really are and how we can build on what is here – that means looking beyond the borders of Utica and thinking of our area as one integrated system.

Examples –
We have numerous colleges and universities within and around Utica. How do we take advantage of what they are teaching and how do we keep those students here?
Utica is landlocked and there is little room for expansion but how can we support areas around us with the room to build – both in Oneida and Herkimer counties?
What’s happening nation wide? What are the growth industries and how can we position ourselves for the future?

Suggestions
Learn from past mistakes. Don’t put all your eggs in one basket – diversify the economic base so you are building both horizontally as well as vertically. One of the reasons we are in the current economic situation is because most of the large business was built around the military. When military spending went down those business started to consolidate and it was not here.

Concept
This is not meant to be the answer but merely an example of how to build using our current assets.
Take energy reduction as a future growth area.

Assets – colleges, current production of energy efficient vehicles – Orion bus & electric trucks at Griffiss.

1. Develop a research component for alternative fuel cars etc. at colleges.
2. Teach vocational courses for building and repair of alternative fuel cars starting at high school level.
3. Market the area as the center for Alternative fuel cars from research and design through production.
4. Develop a secondary economy for tourism based on the development of alternative fuel cars.
5. Create a NASCAR type racecourse at Oneida County Airport for – alternative fuel cars.
6. This will also help support hotels, restaurants etc.
Obviously this is rough but it gives you an idea of how to start looking at an integrated economy based on more than manufacturing.

Anything is possible if we start looking at different angels.

I really know very little about Mayro Roefaro, but he seems like a good guy.

The problem is he doesn't seem to realize that times are bad. If times were good, then his Mayor's
Balls, Christmas Strolls, cosmetic improvements, etc., would be welcomed. But because times are not good for most of us I feel that what little money we have is being wasted.
