Great news today! Albany sees that our region is working hard.
You talk like the money fell from the heavens. It didn't I assure you. It's tax money that was taken from hard working citizens and from businesses. How about giving it back to those it was taken from and let them how to spend/invest it or not. Forcib;y taking money from one and giving it to another would be called a crime if a citizen or business did that.

How many more times do we allow this same failed scenario to be repeated before we finally reject this nonsense.

I don't know what your stake and reward are in this but you need to know you are part of the problem and not the solution.

You have no idea how wrong you are. How about there are those who are tired of being lied to and treated like an ATM machine to fund the dreams of a few and to fill the pockets of a few more. How many more failed taxpayer funded projects do we need to pay for before someone finally realizes the folly of schemes like this?

Your post puts your obvious ignorance as well as arrogance on full display. How dare you make a judgement like that. You have no clue who does what and how much. No clue whatsoever. I would submit that there are many who are very generous with their time, talent and treasure but find the reasons for this region's death spiral disgusting. It certainly doesn't mean that they aren't good citizens and that they are uninvolved. It's just that there are some of us who are blessed with intelligence and memory. Those things tell us to look past the press conferences/sound bites and use history as our guide as to what the likely outcome of these taxpayer funded schemes is going to be.

The people that have been born and raised in Utica know that all this money coming to Utica will end up in Politicians pockets and more "new" construction for HUD houses in getto neighborhoods that will be completely destroyed within a few years.

Why isn't money being spent on the Sewer system that is over 100 years old instead of raising the rates 25% for the taxpapers to pay?

Why not take some of this money and pave ALL the roads in Utica that have been neglected so long that they look like a mine field with all the pot holes on them?

There are so many other projects that are needed to relieve the tax burden us taxpapers have been over burden with for too long.

When these things are done, that will be the day I will celebrate. Until then, this is just another public show of all the political greed that end up in the politicians pockets.

The Mohawk Valley Chamber of Commerce is introducing a new name and branding.

The Chamber will now be known as the Greater Utica Chamber of Commerce.

Executive Director Pamela Matt says the Chamber will continue to represent the same footprint in Oneida, Madison and Herkimer Counties that it always has, while embracing the importance the City of Utica has to the entire region.

Matt says the renaming and rebranding is extremely timely with Nano Utica, the Utica Tower and the Utica Comets happening in the business community.

Area is changing. Even the chamber isn't embarrassed of Utica anymore.

I am going to suggest a few new names for Utica to accompany the re-branding effort.
Bribetown or Perkton or Enticementia.

I think that's an apt name because taxpayer financed bribes are the only way this area and the whole state really, seem to be able to attract business.

They should be embarrassed and the fact they aren't says a lot. This re-branding is more lipstick on the same old pig.

I agree.
As someone that has volunteered a lot of my personal time, money, and sweat into the region, I've seen no growth, no benefit, and no return.
Oh well. So I stopped giving so much of myself around 2011, and the region continued to crumble on without me.

Where's Operation Fu-Gee-La fit in?

Because I can assure all Oneida County residents that going on 20 years of bringing the refugees here has put us out of commission. Sure that federal funding is great, but it's hard to sell the area to anyone but scumbags as anything but the Welfare Capital of the World. Why are our tax dollars being used for this nonsense? I'm sick of having to see my money go to a Somalian family of 13 with no chance of being a productive part of society. It's disgusting. Especially in an area such as this where there's already a poverty issue, we bring in refugees to futher push the issue. It needs to stop. Exactly what are they doing for this area? All the money they spend is our own anyways.

Time for a real change. STOP THE REFUGEES!

Utica can't afford to stop bringing in refugees cut and dried. It's the only people moving there and the region desperately needs the money.

The region only gets a short term burst of money in the beginning. After that runs out many of these then rely on social services which are paid for with local tax dollars. It's cited as one of the reasons for county tax increases every year. One of the legislators did a study not long ago that showed that.

You are right. This regions population, Utica especially, is stable becasue of the influx of immigrants.

Why is this area chosen for these relocation programs in the first place? I've always wondered about that. Is there somone lobbying for this or is it that this area lacks the political clout to say no? Unless you are native American all of us can trace our roots to immigrants. I'm just not sure that previous generations of immigrants required so much taxpayer help. That probably sounds mean spirited and I don't mean it that way.

I agree with you and I believe that's why it doesn't stop. Take the money now and mortgage the future. It's a very dangerous plank the city is walking in my opinion.

The new immigrant are helping this area. Not the generation after generation of welfare slobs, which you find in every city. In fact they learn English before the generational welfare recipient will.
