I didn't think the city stood a chance getting this suit dismissed. But after hearing that David Hurd is presiding over the case, it WILL be dismissed. He has a record of protecting local municipalities from just about any type of law suit, no matter how negligent the city may be. Utica has nothing to worry about.

They ought to cash in on that death and demand an outside investigation into Joe Longo's death, that was a failed attempted suicide he should have survived those injuries he was alive way too long. The local powers that be euthanized Longo because Scott McNamara and all of Joes' friends could NOT afford a trial because another crime would have come out, Joe would've called the feds and turned evidence and hang all his buddies. Joe was not the type of guy that would go down hanging alone.

He could have survived, the powers could NOT afford his survival and his trial.

the case will be dismissed based on no report was taken from her local police where she resides she didn't tell the deerfield police the state police the county police utica police has no jurisdiction they took his guns because of the school incident not his wifes alleged accusations because this is what they are if she doesn't report them to the local police no an outside agency that being UPD,,,,J longo could have sued the police if they acted on something that was never reported to the police were the prob accrued,, this is why he was yelling at the chief and was mad at him because he thought the chief was acting on what the wife was saying when he/chief was acting on the schools accusations but who knows maybe it was his wife sending the letters that caused him to lose his gun and his mind ... THIS IS THE ONE REASON WHY ALL CITY WORKERS SHOULD LIVE IN THE CITY SO WE CAN HANDEL ALL AFFAIRS

This suit should NOT be dismissed. Longo was a local version of Adam Lanza, the Newtown killer. They took his firearms away and he still killed his wife. If anything, all the gun-control idiots should think the next time they want to ban private ownership of firearms. If someone wants somebody dead, they will find a way.

If you look hard enough in any tragedy you will eventually find someone to blame. Ultimately the blame lies with the perpetrator. Everything else is just would of, could of, should of. The city doesn’t have the right to force someone to seek help. They could have fired or suspended him (pending a hearing) but that would not have prevented this.

Why does the entire city have to pay for a couples infidelity ? Guy was a cheating scum bum who found a coworker to bang .? That's a surprise . Surprise , surprise . Can't the cop or the wives of cops keep it in their pants ? Keeping it in the pants is hard to do ? The Utica paper said the other woman or coworker was girlfriend . Girlfriend oh my , that's acceptable now ? When are people going to keep it int their pants ? Married couples are scum bums who cheat .entire city is going to pay a price .its a spiral downward affect . Now everyones going to pay . Some officers wives are not saints . The preachers daughter kinda attitude . I feel sorry for some officers . Some really want to protect people some had the vision since they were a baby some just pass the exam . The bottom line married to the wrong person can cause decades of pain .

In this case the blame goes to kristen and the court!!
So given your line of reasoning Kristin should have been a martial arts expert or owned a handgun to fend off a certain attack by her husband which she knew was gonna happen. Its too bad she didn't have a gun to blow his shit away. Then all of Longo's UPD buddies would be cryin' in their beer saying what a great cop he was.

everything she said to the cops is hearsay and unfounded... this whole case is hearsay with no proof as to what he did before she never reported it the the proper authority's county sheriff and or state police ups has no jurisdiction as to what happens in deerfeild ny everything is unfounded evidence,, even the letter to the chief saying he pulled out his gun in a school this happened on city property regarding the gun at the school and the city police acted on it but they couldn't act on the deerfeild alleged incidents it was no their jurisdiction and the case should be drooped

Its good to see all the punk-azz UPD tuff guys on here defending their royal f***-up, Joey Supercop. This guy should never have been a cop and the incident at Proctor is a good example. If all this amounts to nothing what was the reasoning behind taking his firearms away? Duhhh...might there be an off-duty anger management issue here??

I don’t think anyone is saying this “doesn’t amount to anything”. What I’m saying is to put the blame where it belongs, on Joe Longo. Trying to blame his mental, personal and emotional problems on the UPD and his supervisors is ludicrous. Nobody knew what was going to happen before it happened. You can’t punish someone (fire or suspend them) for something they MIGHT do. You can’t commit or confine someone without a legal hearing and that would require actual proof that he was a danger to himself or others. Just saying a guy is “nuts” is not enough. His actions at Proctor might have been enough to have him suspended or fired but I doubt that would have prevented anything. On the contrary, it might have provoked him sooner.
