I was reading the post about Fitz's Coffee Shop on James Street and it brought back such great memories that I decided to start one on Roosevelt School. I graduated from there in 1975. Does any one remember Coach Zabinski? How about Mrs. Jones or Miss Murch? And let's not forget the janitor, Mr. Jordan. Man, those were the days. I'd like to hear what everyone has to say......

I remember coach, and his flat top buzz cut. I think he recently passed. My brother was up from Florida a couple of weeks ago and we were talking about him. I had Mrs. Jones too. That was a great school, we had a lot of pride there. We were the original Raiders. The Roosevelt Raiders. I left there in the middle of 7th grade because my parents moved. I think it was in '80-81. It had to have been, I graduated HS in '86. I had an older brother and sister that went there too. You are closer in age to my sister based on when you graduated from there.
Let me see if I can remember all of my teachers.
Mrs.Jones 1st-k ?
Mrs.Galicki 2nd
I forget my third grade teacher. I can see her face though. Now it's going to drive me crazy.
Mrs Brooks 4th (Man her metal ruler hurt!!!!)
Mrs. Dawes 5th (Principal of Columbus now I think)
Mr. Ventura 6th
Had a few for 7th. Mrs. Galimi was one. My main teacher, I can't remember her name was out on maternity leave and we had Mr. Zane.

You got that right about coach's sneakers!!!! I don't remember the music teacher though.
Ahhhh...
Mrs. Furintino, that was my 3rd grade teachers name. I know I spelled it wrong. Her famous line was to call you a "little pill" when you were being fresh.

Yea....Dominick and his wife loved me & I used to get the "Jimmy Special". It was a mixed sub for 50 cents. My friends used to get so mad because they couldn't get one! How I loved walking in and hearing Dominick yell, with that accent, "One-a Jimmy special-a". I never quite figured out why they liked me so much, but I sure didn't care! They used to hook me up all the way until they left. What I wouldn't give for a sub from there now!!!!:-(

Hi,
I graduated in '65 and my teachers were, Miss Jones, the greatest kindergarten teacher with M&M's during rest period, and a big slide, and an easle, remember that?
Miss Arnold was 1st grade, Miss Yurnold was 2nd half of first grade, Miss Markham was 2nd grade, Mrs. Humphrey was 3/4 grade (that was an experiment to see if we could do it in one year)(she hit this kids poor hands 70 times with a ruler and drew blood because he was late 70 times), then there was the worst calamity of teacher I ever had the misfortune of having, Miss Baker,,,horrid!!!, then 6th was Mrs. Summers, then there was Mr. Rossi with the PADDLE but he was kinda funny if he wasn't pissed, and then there was hmmm, thats it for now except for Miss Woods the music teacher who liked to hit the poor bloody handed kid too, and I used to try to pour Mrs. Mcgregors food on the floor under the table, it made me sooooooooooo sick!!! IkKKK, that chile con Carne,,,she was soooooo huge and sweating into the caldrons, steaming in front of her...oh my,,,i gotta go take a tums!LOL

Mrs. Draper - Kindergarten
Mrs. Sonicson - 1st grade
Miss Markem - 2nd grade
Mrs. Ambrose - 3rd grade
Mrs. Brooks - 4th grade
Mrs. Arcuri - 5th grade
Miss Zyla - 6th grade
Mrs. Galime - 7th grade
Mr. Loftus - 8th grade

Man, that line up could beat the Yankees!

How about:

Mrs. Rivers and Miss Falvo for music
Miss Badalions for art
Mr. McCluskey and Mr. Saggese for wood shop.

I had Mr. Randall, Mr. Burns and Mr. Kowalski as principals when I was there.

There was a genious kid that lived next door to the school on the Brinkerhoff side when I was in the lower grades. His name was Sar Strong.

The Sirianos live on the other side. I still marvel at the athletic ability of Slicks.

My best memory was when I use to hit home runs on the roof playing softball during gym class.

Oh yeah, how about Vita the crossing gaurd....and Mrs. O'Toole.
