Another pothole complainer. How about we stop salting the effin roads everytime we get a sprinkle of snow??? We wouldn't frig up the roads AND save on salt @ the same time!!!!!!!!!!

Potholes? Last I checked I saw Utica knocking a ton of boarded up houses down and preparing for a new bridge/road to fix Route 12's entrance?
Get a grip. We're improving the city, slowely but surely. Not going to happen overnight. Past politicians goofed the city up for years so it will take that to fix it as well.

UTICA isn't knocking a ton of boarded up houses down. NY STATE IS. and MOST of those boarded up houses were occupied and paying taxes to city of UTICA until NY STATE bought them and boarded them up, and took them off the city tax rolls. so the CITY is loosing tax money by this STATE project and those lost tax dollars will have to be made up by the remaining Utica taxpayers

These slum houses weren't exactly Fountain Elms. They were eyesores. They needed to be knocked down. In fact whole streets need to be razed.

Lets stay on TOPIC. I think its great that the Utica AUD is getting $2 million. It can update and repair areas of it. Its a good venue to have in the area (despite what all local haters have to say). The better there. Same goes for the Stanley.

The negative people on Topix will die miserable. Nobody to hurt but themselves. This is great news, good for the old barn.

Great news! I know that I will get slammed by the Topix neigh sayers but I hope Utica also successfully develops the harbor point area. Other cities have done a great job developing their waterfronts so it is time for Utica to do it too.

$2M is just the start. Local politicians are currently looking to secure additional funds above that amount for the Aud.

We here in the Mohawk Valley always seem to bitch that NYS ignores us and gives us nothing but peanuts when it comes to the NYS budget (me included, I admit). So here we are getting $2MIL and whaddaya know, us CNY folks are now bitching where it should/shouldn't go...

I give up - no wonder NYS ignores us - were bitchy people that EXPECT everything to be handed to us. At this point we should just go all out or die trying. Bring us an AHL team...let's get the party started!

Awesome. The Aud is an institution. I mean Slap Shot was filmed there for goddsakes. Glad to know the state wants to keep it a vital part of Central NY.

I am sorry, but "IF" we actually do get an AHL team, I just don't see how it can be supported.
First, the areas population has decreased(~80k to 55K) since the old AHL days of the late 80's to mid 90's.
Second, people do not have that kind of disposable income. NO JOBS!!! People always say they will support an AHL team, but honestly attending 2-3 games/year hardly supports a team.
Third, they better start 10 and 0, or the attendance will tank immediately. New teams rarely start well.
Fourth, last I looked Somalians, Asians and even Bosnians are not big hockey fans.

I heard they might tear down the old textile store next to the Aud and make it into a parking lot..

HA! You're correct about the record of the team affecting the attendance. That occurs everywhere (except Toronto it seems). But I wanted to correct you in that this isn't a "new" team that may come. It's the Peoria Rivermen from this past season - they're just relocating. Again, this is all just a big IF at this point in time.

Yes population has gone down. A lot has changed. A good hing is the percentage of people in the area who are hockey fans have increased (just guessing). Regardless, all the issues you mentioned I'm sure (or hope) the investors have looked at all that. If the Binghamton Senators are chuggin' along I don't see why we can't either.

Utica is the only town in New York State that complains about getting $2 million dollars. If this money went to Syracuse or Binghamton you would all be complaining that the politicians in Utica are not doing their jobs.

Cry if we win, cry if we lose.

Gotta love Utica moaners.
