Never use Utica National/Mutual Insurance!!! They will take your money and run. They use expensive lawyers to go against your claim. Find a reputable Insurer, not these crooks. I have been there and I will worn the public about this till I am dead.

What was your claim about? Did you have a lawyer to represent you? These are questions that might let us know WHY you feel Utica Mutual is a "crook".

There are many exclusions in ALL Insurance policies which specifically state what is NOT covered. Did you read these exclusions in your policy? Utica Mutual, by law, has to have a valid reason for declining a claim.

What reason did they use?

I think I read in an earlier thread that you can contact Mike Austin and file a complaint...he can be found in any one of the local establishments.

They say some of the costs in the personal property list were erroneous. I
had to figure in inflation as I had a rider for replacement plus inflation. I did so by using today's costs which should be right. If they were so anal about the cost estimates, they should have done it themselves. Instead they waited (slow walked) the payment until a statute expired and said too bad we're not paying. Never even tried to work it out with me. My whole family lost items in the fire. They never even paid on the building itself, which had nothing to do with their "problem". I did what anyone would do to procure pricing, using catalogs, stores, etc.

Yet you haven't filed a complaint, haven't gotten a lawyer, etc., you just think bitching here is going to solve your problem... insurance cos handle fire losses every day but they don't just give you what you say "with inflation," you have to document your loss. Something's fishy in Rochester.

You still have two choices:#1 - Contact the Insurance Commissioner of NYS (address is in the phone book)- His Office will get in touch with Utica Mutual, review their answer to why they have NOT paid your claim and will probably rule in your favor. Utica Mutual will then HAVE to do what the Commissioner rules.

#2 - Hire an Insurance Adjuster to do all the inventory etc. for you. They are professionals in dealing with the insurance companies and their fee is a percentage of what is paid to you by Utica Mutual.

Do NOT let Utica Mutual bully you - you have as much rights, if not more, than they do!

I did everything Utica National asked for. I gave them all documentation, answered everything. I also paid them premiums, on time, for like 10 years and never had another claim. Other insurance companies involved in the loss (motorcycle, boat) paid in a timely, no problem manner. I believe others should know about this company and find a more accountable one. It could happen to you.

If you can't get any satisfaction from Utica Mutual re. your claim - do as I stated above. Write a letter to the Commissioner of Insurance in Albany, NY. I guarantee you that YOU will get a reply from them and they will put the pressure on Utica Mutual for you. Good luck.

Never told him he was wrong -- gave him the address of the NYS Insurance Department so that he can file a complaint. He has a right to do so... and if someone has a problem with a claim, we want to know about it. Even with a 98% consumer satisfaction rating on our last survey, our claims management reviews every consumer complaint to see how we can get better. If we make a mistake on something we'd want the opportunity to correct it.

I would like to see that consumer satisfaction survey, M. Austin. I have heard of others getting
the shaft from your company. I will never let this go because I paid you for insurance and that is what I expect, not a lie. How many were in your survey? People, do not ever deal with this company, find a reputable one. Every other insurance company I have had in my lifetime has been accountable, but NOT this one.

OK Mr. Austin, I will give you the opportunity to "Correct" your wrong. You will receive my notification soon. I am not only doing this for myself, but for my entire family who lost on this claim. I know it's probably hard for you to figure
which claim this is because I am sure your company has denied many of them. I will not sleep on this
and I have commited myself for the rest of my life to have this claim rectified. Until then, I will warn everyone I can about Utica National.(please see other state Topix). It is past time for the general public to know how you operate. Please People, heed what I say and get an insurance company that doesn't boast online as to how much,
in millions, they have made...see their site.

Well the first thing you did wrong was not hire a public adjuster. This claim would have been settled a long ago and if the claim was valid, you would be sitting on more cash than Utica National would have offerred you at any time. Those guys are magic men.
