Please sell me as an outsider why I should move to the utica region. What's there that it makes it a desirable place to live? Is the growing economy? Is it the great weather? Is it the wonderful educational system? Is it the rising home values? Is it the low taxes?

What are the reasons?

All these people comment here about the utica truths put out but not one person can give me reasons to sell utica to me? Perhaps the condition of the roads? I heard they are top notch.

Love ya Bobbie but nobody is going back there. Beaing patient got old 10 years ago you have to go out and get it not sit in Utica and wait for the parasite class to make good on one single promise. We tried that their way and left still waiting. Honest people get fcked in Utica the cops don't even arrest people who are their friends. C'mon. NY is for the birds.

I said it before. No reason to move to Utica area. Only reasons to stay are family, job or public assistance.

I'm not being negative about Utica. Just nothing to attract a person. I live, work and my family/ friends are here. I happy with what I have.

But if there's no reason to move there why do the elected officials always talk and spend money trying to attract tourists?

Ah, secret un-revealed knowledge. Something so incredibly wonderful for the area that...it simply can't be mentioned. Haven't we heard this song before?
You will find these things to be of interest and value.
(You're talking to a guy who for many years made his living selling $35,000 timeshares to people he had never met in 90 minutes. Doubting me usually costs the doubter money)
A guy who peddled timeshares, with a super-secret project that will change the area forever?

Oh, that's just what Utica needs. See: "Center for Brownfield Studies", "Griffiss Institute for Information Assurance", the various incarnations of the regional "Business Incubator", the Utica NanoCenter, etc.

Da Law and Lies,
First and foremost, government need not spend any money to do these things.
You must have an understanding of how tourism works. This government doesn't. I do.
It's the Harbor Front development question all over again. Can you really propose a plan for this when your relevant experience is limited to Sylvan Beach and Delta Lake?? I say No.
It's not a secret plan. I just don't want to bid against myself. If I told you what 3 properties I was down to considering for the recovery center, the price would go up on each one. If I told you what I was working on for tourists, those prices would go up too.
Sorry about that.
Sorry. There's no demand for tourism in utica. There's no reason for people to travel there.

The truth? There are many wonderful reasons to move to this area. There are low taxes, municipal power, house prices are lower, etc. If you enjoy the change of seasons , there is another reason! There are many generous, caring people here that support worthwhile causes like the heart run and walk, ALS walk, telethons, etc. Why shouldn't people come here? Truth? They won't be welcomed. There are way too many negative people to the point of a mental illness. They sit on sites like these and point out the flaws and slam each other day in and day out but never get out and do anything to make it better. They sit at home waiting for politicians to legislate them a better life. I wonder what all of you that fight and spew your evil would do if you committed to only being positive for 60 days. You would probably implode.

How high are you right now?

Low taxes? Low house prices...why would anyone purchase property there at all when next month the value decreases further? Changing of the seasons...well you just described half the country there. Heart walks etc....you mean the leeching NFPs?

Now how's the job environment look? How's the quality of life? How's the school systems? Yeah that's what I thought.

Lies,

Problem is folks visit these places and don't interact with anyone else. Government should have solved that by now and hasn't.
There's no where to visit in utica and there's no money to build anything. There's zero reason to visit there and that will never change.

I have a great job. Spouse has a great job. Don't know anyone out of work. Quality of life-don't have high blood pressure. Commute to work is minimal compared to friends in other areas that have to drive 45-90 minutes one way. Several vacations per year. Excellent school system for our kids. One recently got accepted to an Ivy League school. We volunteer for several organizations. We are members of a wonderful church. Now go collect your welfare check while I work to support your large, lazy self.

Many reasons to move here. State Street mill store, Stars, Riverside mall, Boston store, Mungers, Chicago market, King Cole ice cream, Jeans Beans. Safe neighborhoods where you can leave your doors open. Thriving economy. Everyone has a job. Only negative corrupt politicians. I think you will find all of this and more. Of course I had to move away 40 years ago.

You obviously haven't done any research in order to support your opinion. While house prices may be lower, taxes are some of the highest in the country when you total everything. Add to that the "insider" and "friends and family" nature of local government and you'll find plenty of reason to urge people to stay away.

You are right about the generosity of this area. People are generous to a fault. The change of seasons is nice but it's a personal preference. You like it but many people don't care for the winters. Many don't care for the oppressive heat of July. Like I said, personal preference.

I don't sit at home waiting for politicians to legislate anything. Quite the opposite. I'm very active and vocal in urging those who represent me to scale back government and legislate less. Most of the legislation we get is counter to making Utica, New York and Oneida County a better place to live.

The original poster poses a great question. I couldn't in good conscience tell anyone that this would be a good place to move to because in my opinion it isn't. Make upstate New York (everything north of Westchester County) a separate state, get rid of redundant/unnecessary government and make it a right to work state then maybe I'll change my mind.

Taking an honest look at this area and forming an opinion based on what one can see in other more successful states and cities is not evil. If you care to please take a look at this.
