Well said Justice. Sums it up pretty well. Nd cant spin this in a positive way. Its big time bad PR for a school that can ill afford to lose even one student.

You said the key word every time Notre Dame. You really think colleges care who is coaching these kids and who left the board? Come on you seem pretty smart when you post. The point here is most of this complaining is from the same group of haters trying to make a difference in the decision making of a good private school that does great things for our area. This all stems from a football coach don't let the walls they build up full you. When I go to sleep at night I don't worry about who stepped down from a new school board that was just created I also don't worry about who is not donating money to the school any longer. What ND real supporters want done is the fake ignorant people identified and weeded out.

Why do you think ND is pushing so hard to raise money and build this addition? It is because they know their window is closing.
ND is going to be in serious competition with the two Utica charter schools in a few years. Once they fill the high school levels they will add sports and then ND is toast.

Good point. The charter schools will provide stiff competition to ND once sports are added. Nd's enrollment is already bare bottom. Nd will not survive 5 years

The real supporters as you call us have all left the school, good luck with your new school campaign. This is a case of unmitigated arrogance from the Diocesan level on down. the schools best days have come and gone. Turn out the lights the party's over.

So, people here are trying to make it sound like who coaches a school sports team has nothing to do with the success of the athletes on that team in regards to college.

You are totally wrong.

If an athlete is incorrectly instructed all through his HS career, and hasn't been taught how to play the game correctly, hasn't been taught properly how to train their body, doesn't have quality game video to show a college coach, how in the world can you say that wouldn't affect the athletes ability to get into a college where they may want to play football?

For most HS players, the quality of his HS Football Coach is VITAL in the college coach relationship building process. A rare kid like Will Smith didn't need that, but 99% of kids do.

This is exactly what ND is worried about. This big re announcement about the blah blah blah addition they've been discussing for years was strategically timed to when the first charter school opened.
But you forgot about the charter schools funding. The reason why the charter school can exist, is because they siphon funds away from the public school, in this case Proctor. They are fully funded by the taxpayers at the expense of the public school. With so many vacant school and church buildings in Utica, they can get a location for cheap.
These charter schools will have way more funds to entice kids to go there, they had a waiting list right off the bat to get in. ND has to beg kids to come there and offer no tuition to those running out of the door. It is FREE to go to a charter school!
The charters will end up with better facilities, better administrations and teachers, better sports programs, all funded by your tax dollars.
You at ND should be alarmed.

Folks it's pretty much over for Notre Dame. Look at the economic landscape and you can just about tell how the story ends! Charter schools will eventually overwhelm catholic schools economically. Basically in Utica you have people who just don't want their kids to go to school w minorities. Notre Dame was the option. Now w tuition being so much it makes more sense to just move to nh or wboro w the money you are going to spend on tuition.
People are either moving, biting the bullet or signing up for a charter school.
Proctor doesn't look so bad when you have 3-4 kids.... 20grand tuition for crap teachers or minorities and 3 vacations per yr.... I'm going on vacation and letting my kids grow up in a schools that mirror the world we live in.... Not fantasy land where people like Jp Gilroy run the show!

I graduated from nd in 87. Yes, My family and I have been supporters for nd for many years. I also considered sending my.kids to nd. However, all the support and sending my children thru the nd school system came to an end this year. The reasons are simple. #1 the incident that happened with byron abraham. What sister anna mara, gilroy, and other board members did was wrong. Its the principle of the whole thing. For me, I expected better from the administration. Those poor decisions also reflect upon the children at that school. Another words, the administration are poor role models for the children. I expect some of these things to happen in the public school but they should not happen at nd. Over the years it seems like nd has faltered why to many times. #2 the cost does not outweigh the benefits #3 the teaching is probably just as good at the public schools #4 as far as sports goes, every school offers a competitive program. I will admit that mike durr is probably one of the best basketball coach around. Might be best coach ever for this area.

It's apparent that many former ND grads have chosen to send their kids elsewhere. The school is begging for students and now board prez Jim Joseph is looking at china to fill seats. Must be a nice deal..close Oneida Limited and send all the jobs to China and we'll take your kids and educate them in America. Nice job Jim

Mr Joseph is not entirely to blame. The current problems at ND rests primarily with the head administrator( Sister AM). She has never been comfortable around students, faculty and parents. For the most part, she hides in her office most of the day and she relies very heavily on Mr. Kane, coaches, staff and volunteers to do the heavy lifting. The student experience is the sum total of the collective experience that the student and families feel while at ND. Administrators, coaches faculty and volunteers are all part of that. But the person with their "hand on the tiller", the one mainly responsible for guiding the ship (so to speak) is the principal. And this is where she has failed. The enrollment trend is very is poor and weak. They appear to be grasping at straws and can't seem to figure it out. If students and families do not have an extremely favorable experience while at ND, they will never donate and support the school for any current (or future) development campaigns one they leave. Administrators,Teachers and coaches play a very important role in student development and the student experience. I wish them well but it appears the die is cast.

I disagree about the ship is sinking. I know the Byron Abraham enthusiasts who've posted here would have you believe that but don't start sending sympathy cards just yet.

Who would send their kids to ND? People who care about an education that has a spiritual foundation. There is that aspect that many overlook. Believe it or not there are those parents who see the value in that type of environment and will pay in order for their kids to experience it. Standards and Regents exams being what they are the curriculums aren't going to vary much from school to school so for those who care more about the education in that kind of educational environment than they care about high school football, ND can be the right choice. There's an open house tonight. Why not go an look around and find out for yourself why someone might jump aboard as you put it. Talk to the teachers but be sure to talk to the kids. You might just get a different perspective than you get here.

Speaking of choice, do you realize that without ND there is no choice? It's the public school system or nothing unless you home school. I don't think that's a good thing.
