UTICA - Another store in North Utica is packing up as the A.C. Moore in Riverside Center prepares to close its doors.

Next week begins a "Liquidation Sale" for the crafts store, whose manager says the store will be making a formal announcement on the closing on Monday.

One store employee says that the closing is currently slated for November, but the corporate office for A.C. Moore did not return calls on Friday. Linens and Things, also in Riverside Center, recently announced its closure, and the parent company of Steve and Barry's, who has a store also in the center, had recently filed for bankruptcy (end)

Gee, maybe we can get a nano center to open a second factory at the Riverside, after IBM and the first Nano center are up and running.

NEEDED-Tumble weed gartherer, to keep lots clear. HEY, maybe the 99c stor will expand!

Hey, no negativity in this city. This is just a minor challenge for the Mayor and Bob Sullivan. Soon, just after the Hotel Utica starts to pay taxes on time, and the City Centre is full again, he will tackle the mall issue. Perhaps annexing Deerfield and forcing the people to shop only on Horatio street will work.

They actually needed the space for the new water authority/edge offices--they cannot fit their egos in the old buildings

I remember that time.
Look what the fat cats did to this town. Uticans had all the answers. We need more geniuses at EDGE and a bigger city "do nothing Utican" department to solve all the "Utican" issues.

Just after the chip plant opens next to the IBM plant.

Don't worry though, they are going to rename it the Riverside/Oneida County International Duty Free Center and turn the arterial into a runway. There will be flights from the casino to Rome, then a small plane to Riverside for a day of shopping and fun. Yup, our leaders have it all figured out.

Imagine, breakfast at the casino, lunch at Savoy/Beeches then dinner at the place outside of Lowes. Boy I bet the Oneida County International Convention and Visitors Bureau is marketing the hell out of this one

What we need to do is have more meetings and then do nothing afterward. As long as we can eat lunch and drink on duty and someone else is picking up the check, then things will get better. Remember, things will get worse before they get better. How much worse? Call Bob, Mayor wouldn't know, he's not there.

Riverside's fate as a "mall" was sealed when Sangertown opened, and Consumer Square is finishing it off as a shopping center. Aside from Lowe's, there's really no reason for it to be anyone's destination. The location sucks -- in the middle of a swamp, a pain in the ass to get to from downtown Utica & relatively removed from the folks in the southern suburbs who have any money to spend.

Maybe someone will open another telemarketing center there and keep the property from falling off the tax rolls. ;-)

How much worse, well everyone is not on public assistance yet, and some still speak english in some form, East Utica still has stores on Mohawk Street, fortunatly though we will import people from West Utica to destroy them.

Once the decay here is complete we will move onto Newhartford. See, one way or another we regionalize, if not for the better, lets spread the cancer evenly. Sangertown has plenty of empty space, they disguise it better. Thay also have nifty dressed security, makes you feel better. Seems classier, no?

Actually, when Riverside was still a mall, I preferred it to Sangertown..and I know others who felt the same way. Too bad about AC Moore. I really try to avoid Consumer Square--that whole area--can't stand the traffic.

Utica is certainly an economic cesspool and you can blame 95% of that on the political leaders and mindless self-serving beurocrats. People just need to stop putting up with their shit and throw them out (95% of them, both parties).

But don't over sell Dixie my friend. I'm originally from Upstate, still have family there.

I moved south many years ago and have seen the economic declines even here. Although not as profound as Upstate.

This whole country is in serious trouble. If we continue on our current economic trends with the national debt, inflation, unprecedented
governnment growth and spending, we will very soon witnees a cataclysmic enconomic catastrophe that will make the Great Depression look like Christmas Day.

You can laugh at, ridicule or shoot the messenger if you don't like the message but that doesn't change the facts.

Watch this if you doubt it:

If we want to take this country back, like it or not, it's time for a REVOLUTION!

MadMax you hit the nail right on the head. It is time for a revolution to get rid of all the dead weight that plagues, not only the local level, but state and federal levels of government. Maintaining the status quo will not fly anymore. For far too long people in governement use it as a career to sponge off the working class. I do not believe our forefathers intended it to be this way. The defintion of "public servant" does not apply anymore, because politicians fail to realize that they really do work for the people. Unfortunately it is no longer "Government by the people and for the people." It is for the so called "elite" to dictate to us instead of the other way around. It is going to take a second American Revolution to make this change.
