Very true, but at least he updated the bathroom in the Mayor's Office to a cost of $60,000. Also, Danny Labella, not to be left out updated the police chief's bathroom for another $40,000. Nice going guys!

We may never know what was said in the Utica Common Council executive session that resulted in a 9-0 decision to borrow the $2 million to pay for this. When I saw that I thought there must be some very strong evidence against the police department, and therefore the city, for the entire council including Vescera and Zecca to decide it was in the best interest of the city to pay up.

The family's attorney's said this which is also very telling:
"This case is about accountability in a department riddled with cronyism, and the department should not be allowed to escape this critical evaluation any longer,"

The part I don't understand though is how then Chief LaBella walks away unscathed. Taxpayers are footing the bill.

If this case had gone to trial the city stood to lose bigtime with an unfavorable verdict. I'll grant you the judge would not have awarded the plaintiffs the full$100M but a $5-$10M settlement would have been justified. We don't know if they'll do it but the plaintiffs should file acivil judgement against Roefaro & Labella, the 2 stooges.

Roefaro not only got away with the biggest heist in Uticas history but literally got away with accessory to murder. Sin City is back for good as it's the taxpayers who are paying the highest taxes in the country because of the incompetence and cronism of Roefaro and rubber stamp council. This is what happens when there are no checks and balances and everyone is in bed together. Maybe they all slept with Roefaros Bosnian girlfriend to. He was a very generous Mayor with taxpayers money he mis-managed all four years.
Sad but true.

Too bad NYS didn't come in and go over all the books when Roefaro left office.

if it went to trial it would have been up to the jury, not the judge, the amount of the award. Given the specifics of this case and the blatant cronyism and corruption, a jury could have awarded $10M just in punitive damages alone, not counting compensatory damages.

Party time in Sin City. Roefaro, LaBella, and Palmeiri are probably all down to Piers&Blake tonight celebrating there escaping and dodging another bullet. This is just another black eye on Uticas corruption and another debt for taxpayers. I wonder why there are so many drunks and drug addicts in Utica. Feeling sorry for anyone who still lives there.
As long as uticans are blinded by big words like "progress" and "uticas open for business" it doesn't matter. They'll just keep paying with hope of a bright future!

Mel,
What did you do after you retired from football? The Cowboys secondary sure could use you these days!
