The god-awful chains have driven all of the really good locally owned restaurants out of business. Years ago there were dozens of excellent local restaurants. Put lots of salt and fat in a dish, reheat it in the microwave. Not my idea of good food.

if the chains can chase off private owned restaurants its because they suck. The people in upstate have no clue what good food really is. You people live in a farmer filled, behind the times, incest feast of a world. You have fake, immitation, disgusting Italian food, garbage Chinese food, fake greek food. Absolutely nothing authentic let alone fresh. Of course you peasants cant afford real authentic restaurants like downstate. So good luck with your chain restaurants and oh yeah, that shit you call tomato pie?

The fake food is all being served at the lousy chain restaurants who are in business because they can out price locally owned places with buying in high volume, cutting corners on quality and paying 'lots of part time employees low wages without benefits. You can have your Olive Gardens, McDonalds and Applebees, I'll go to a real restaurant or stay home. Not sure why you think we can't compete with downstate restaurants but maybe if you got out more you'd think defferently.

first off Im not from your dependent upon welfare and govt handout area. As I said You people have no restaurants in your area that create authentic dishes from various ethnicities. Ive been to a couple of area restaurants in Utica and Syracuse none that worthy of a return visit. Your area does not even have any real delis whether they be Italian Jewish or other. Your eateries and sub places use the worst grade of meats and cheeses. Your so called delis use garbage domestic meats and cheeses, and you definitely have no and I mean absolfrigginlutely no friggin bakeries. Drakes has all of your bakeries beat. As far as getting out I know it must be difficult on salaries in your area of 40 and 50k per year, but give your family a yearly treat and leave the pasture and get real food. even if you made it to Westchester it would be a huge improvement from the dog food you farmers eat upstate.

you want to compare the best of the best? You want to compare the best restaurants in Utica deucebag ny,upstate ny? The land of where your uncle is your brother and your grandfather is also your father? Take the best restaurants these cow pushers have to offer and compare them to the best of Any of the five boroughs. WAIT! Lets compare your slop with the best from our upstate, which we consider Westchester and Rockland. The restaurants there would put your Franco American,Prego a$$es to shame. Like I said don't even dare to compare restaurants from the Bronx,Queens,or Brooklyn, let alone Staten Island and Manhatten. You are one of the reasons why we make fun of your backwoods lifestyle, mentality, and menial paying jobs. My dry cleaning delivery guy makes more than you friggin pulpers. And he eats much better. Go take your family to the Olive Garden,or one of those REAL authentic Chinese buffets.

FYI, just remember for every good restaurant in the five boroughs there is at least 100 bad ones and the bad ones survive because of the sheer number of people who either live or visit your area. Also, if the dry cleaner did not make more than the people in upstate he would not be able to live as everything is orders of magnitude more expensive than it is upstate.

Personally, I would rather live in an environment with less pollution and people. Apparently, many people from five boroughs and New Jersey feel the same way since they leave your area to visit the Adirondacks on a weekly basis...

hey Freddie fact finder,Im glad to see you are a restaurant officionato. Sorry to tell you but you are way off base. First of all you eat that shit upstate,so that destroys any credibility you might think you might of had. The food upstate SUCKS. That is a general consensus. That is why you have all your local sleezeball cooks, thats right cooks, not chefs, having their dining rooms filled everynight with the likes of V.I.P.s from all major sports ,movies, and business world. Now,those people have the means to travel whenever and wherever they want, regardless of geographic location,AND THEY DO! They just don't come to your rat infested restaurants serving frozen, stale shit cooked by people who have no business being in front of a stove or oven. That's why all the big names flock to Utica you clown. Also, gee as you stated I guess the restaurants downstate should be thanking your neanderthols for patronizing their restaurants. As you said they are mostly supported by tourists from upstate. You people cant even get out of your own way. Most of you farmers cant even afford the BUS trip.Oh and by the way,Ill tell my laundry guy you said hello. Hes a classy guy and Im sure he will have a tip for you. Ill stay with the pollution, you stay with the incest and poison

Obviously... Just Because, Lost my Appetite and Hey Joey are all the same pompous ass. Hey genius, stay in the city where you can put on a show for all your friends, if you actually have any (which I doubt). Your mother must be so proud of the fine, gentleman you've become. Or maybe she's also a self-absorbed pompous ass like you.

Wow very witty, genius! I find it interesting how you keep repeating the word incest, in its various forms. You've been to Utica, according to your posts, sooooooo, hmmmm, maybe you're actually from this area and the aforementioned word cuts so deeply into your psyche... you've turned against the entire Upstate of New York. Just a thought.

Nice try Mr. Funking Haney. Never said I was against Upstate,NY. Have visited this area many times. Ran Your Boilermaker many times. Have made derogatory comments toward most area restaurants that were recommended, some highly recommended, but disappointing to me. Others making comparisons to me,not you but me in relationship to restaurants in my area. I happen to STRONGLY disagree. As for some of the sarcasm, well that goes with the territory. If that offended, what do you want from me? Get thicker skin. As far as being from this area,No thanks buckaroo, not for me. If it works for you then run with it.

Who the hell is Mr. Funking Haney? Lol Lets face it, NYC has some of the best restaurants in the world...so for you to compare Utica restaurants to those in the city is preposterous. I guess I just object to your small mindedness. Please don't disparage farmers. Without them there would be no food. One if the great things about our country is we can choose to live where we want. Just because some people want to live where you would never dream of, doesn't mean they're uneducated, inbred farmers. Enjoy the Boilermaker....then leave ASAP. Lol

Mr. Haney was a farmer on the show green acres. Like I said earlier, you cant take sarcasm too seriously. Every area of the country has its stereotypes as well as each ethnic group. Too much political correctness is not healthy. We need to laugh a little more these days, and we need to be able to laugh at our selves every once in a while too. Your area has good people as other areas of the state along with quality of life attractions. I know quite a few people upstate. Good luck to you and your Boilermaker too,and if you are looking for good food Ill steer you in the right place. lol!
