What we know to date...

The 1-and-only Truth: Vancouver Canucks purchase the Peoria AHL team. This has been publicly stated and is in fact "true".

The Unknown: Where will Vancouver move Peoria? Some say Abbotsford, but this is still unconfirmed.

The Unknown: The Heat to move? The only public announcement was from Calgary, saying "No, they won't". Nothing signed on paper yet that we're aware of though and they have said this before.

The Doubtful: Utica getting a team? This is probably the LEAST of the unknowns as unlike the rest of the US and Canada, Utica remains the only city with silence about the entire situation (except for Topix, which is complete opposite than other cities involved)

If you know something differently please post your proof here for others to see. A simple reply stating "Utica will get a team" will fall under "The Unknown" by default.

Opinions and optimism is great, but this falls under the "The Unknown" category for the moment (remember, need PROOF)

There was an article written by a freelance Hockey News writer, on the Utica newspaper webpage, claiming a source told him the Flames were moving to Utica. With some pretty detailed facts that only a well connected source would know.

Why does anyone "deserve" proof of anything yet? Seriously. The parties involved are the only ones who know and if they chose to tell others during the process that's their prerogative. They will choose when to come publicaly about it. I've tried to piece it together on this board for everyone but no one is going to believe it until its a headline in the OD so why bother.

They deserve proof if even one thin dime of taxpayer money is going to be used. That is why they deserve proof.

No you don't actually. Not before everything becomes official. None of the parties including any governing parties are required to bring any information to the public until its officially announced. It's a business situation. It's not some public debate situation.

The Utica Memorial Auditorium is publicly funded entity, even if your fantasy AHL team is not. Ergo if an AHL team decides to become a tenant of the Auditorium thereby requiring renovations to bring the Auditorium up to AHL standards, it is a "public debate situation."

After the fact. Not prior. This is why there's elected officials.

Things like this are why we find ourselves in the financial situation we are in today. Contracts negotiated behind closed doors that don't represent the interests of the public at large. We elect representatives but that doesn't give them carte blanche to do whatever they want with our money.

Let them spring something like this and try to spin it as a positive. I believe that most of the representatives, with the exception of Brindisi who I believe is totally clueless, understands the downside of supporting an effort like this and won't touch it with a ten foot pole. If they don't understand that then let the chips fall where they may in terms of their political future.

Bottom line - it's the people's money. The people should have a say in how it is redustributed.

Are we getting a team? Are we not getting a team? A handful of people give a rat's ass. Stop this spit! This is pathetic! You who are desperate for an AHL team should have as much interest in getting this area REAL jobs, not a few low paying jobs that would be here for five years before a pro team would leave s taxpayers with a load of bills. Focus, Utica citizens. It ain't about hockey.

I understand your point, and it makes logic sense about focusing on REAL jobs. But guess what: That's what we (Utica) have been asking the politicians to do for 30 years and that shit just ain't workin' son. So i say throw in the towel and get a team...we got nothing to lose right because we've already lost everything in this society.

You really opened my eyes. Thanks for your input once again and for using the word oootican. Thanks for posting this, it must have taken you all day. Surprising, with the obvious unbelievable job you must have in Dreamsville you used your precious time to write your first novel for all of us to enjoy. You have real insight and understand what everyone around here does with their lives. Sorry I have taken up your valuable time. You can go back to Wall Street now and make some more money. You're the greatest!

Some people have a very very low threshold for excitement.
Maybe Billy Fucillo and the "soooper condoooper rich" Brindisis will just BUY a hawkey team so these imbeciles will stay entertained. I laugh when I see how people gladly spend for these all-american wholesome sports afterschool clubs turn into future correction-officer-vanity pageants. The parents and kids are happy to spend $3M taxes on night lights so they have this big stage to make their gnat-brained upstate inbred Jonny "feel good" but few could ever create, build and install such things themselves. "Burger King", "DPW" or "Marcy" is a little more these people's future. Meanwhile, teachers and educators "make-do" with mediocre curriculum and guidance.
Oh, that and discussing "which bunch of unproductive clowns is coming to oootica so we can make another sideshow while squandering money that pragmatism dictates should be well spent elsewhere X 5000.
Enjoy your time and exercise with your kids. Don't play the man-worship buttslap imaginary glory game. They'll have plenty of time for that when they work at UPD.
You are not obligated to shed your intelligence before posting on topix. Next time, try to bring some with you to the discussion.

I'm only going to post once on this because it's a done deal:

Albany has already set aside 6+ MILLION dollars for the Utica Aud renovations. Whether you like it or not this building should have renovations whether a team came/comes or not. It's a "good" part of Utica (they're ain't many left) and if we don't throw $$ at it soon then it will just become another boarded up place like most houses are.

The team will be here. There are MANY other details out there that I don't know at the moment, but we'll see how the dust settles. Enjoy, and let's welcome the 1st puck drop in October.

Show proof.
Send us to that line item in the budget and let us know who proposed such a thing while at the same time voting to cut aid to developmentally disabled.

The Aud is surviving in its' current configuration. The building does need and is getting needed updates and renovation. They don't need a video scoreboard or luxury boxes which are from what we read prerequisites for an AHL affiliate to come.

In addition to election day we have a say anytime we want to send an email or make a call to representatives. Like I said winning an election is not carte blanche to do whatever they want.
