I'm a taxpayer and I'm damn fine with support for an AHL team. What I'm not fine with is paying for all the drug addict low life's that give this place a bad rap sitting on there ass being a waste and burden to society. With that said lets get this topic back on track and talk hockey. The wolves finished with 83 points and if they move to the east they would've made the playoffs. With that said lets hope Utica is in the East!!!! We'll have a good team so lets get out there and support them. Taxpayer money or not its over we have a team lets get out there and support them! Lets show what we can do as a community instead of proving all the naysayers right.

I agree with you except the Wolves had half the Canucks players, the other half under contract independently. So we will only have half that roster

Would that mean they would be like EDGE? Able to soak taxpayers without having to be transparent?

Gilman said there is no clause in the deal that would call for the city of Utica to make up financially for any operating losses. So people stop bitching about taxpayers getting screwed here and support the Comets!!!!

So, just cuz you SAY it, don't mean it's TRUE.
utica does not run the day to day operations of the comets, that is rob esches groups job. if anyone is responsible for that it would be esches group to cover the loses...... dont be afraid to think once in a while.....

My son Cliffy said that if he collects enough cans to go to a game, he wants to meet 10 males from utica in the bathroom. He wants to show the men of utica how much he appreciates all the support.
He has been putting lip balm on his lips every hour to show his gratitude.

New York State taxpayers are footing the bill for $5.25 million dollars in Aud improvements specifically targetted and designed to attract an AHL team. That is the fact of the matter. The city didn't make and financial guarantees but did the county or state? Senator Griffo, Assemblyman Brindisi, OGS director Destito and Governor Cuomo somehow hid that fact that over $5 million was allocated in the New York State budget for this at a time when aid to education and aid to the developmentally disabled was cut. that is also a fact.

If you watched the news conference they all patted eachother on the back, thanked eachother and generally engaged in a political love fest. You know who they didn't thank? Not one of them mentioned that it's taxpayer's money being used. No one thanked the taxpaying people of the state of New York. It was all I, he, she, they and not one mention of the people who really foot the bill.

You don't think that's a reason to complain or to further distrust our clueless elected officials?

actualy the way it happened the money was given only after the canucks committed to a 6yr contract. There is also a 6 yr renewal. It wasnt given in hopes of atracting a team

Education and aid to those who need it most are an ongoing effort. We will now see how things get worse without that aid.

Actually, they signed a 6 year deal with an escape clause. Next year after they make their deal with Abbotsford and Utica has an entirely different team (or none at all) you should re-visit the post you made.

The $5.25 million is for upgrades to the Aud specifically targetted at AHL standards. Without the promise of those changes the AHL Board of Governors may have not voted for this move. This entire scheme was an orchestrated, behind the scenes effort funded by taxpayers and if you doubt that you must be very naive.

the flames would be complete idiots to leave abbotsford with the deal they have their. as far as ahl standards. they needed video replay and locker rooms. the weight training rooms are being shared with utica college. everything else can be used for concerts and other attractions...the aud is simply way out dated to draw good shows in here.

Are you going to still be bitching on Topix 6 years from now when the Canucks exercise their option to stay in Utica for another 6 years?
