They whole concept was bad from the beginning.. This IAI is a company with a history of boning airports and their own employees... And the idiot who brought them here swallowed the bait and we as taxpayers are choking... Lets see what their exit strategy will be and how much they hang us out for $$$$$$.. who ever brought them here should be made accountable for their actions...

Your kidding right? DeMeo and his merry band of thieves held accountable? These idiots at Edge and the GLDC have been spending our money, without any accountability, like drunken sailors since the day the Air Force pulled out.
It's time for Stevie and the gang to be shown the door. Along with our incompetent county legislators that just keep going along with this chirade.
How about this for an idea... Hire a real business person, turn this project over, and let them build a true business park. And when I say, "turn it over", I mean turn it over. Not, bring your plan before our useless legislators so they can figure out a way to screw it up or figure a way to grease thier own paws. Pay based on performance to include a nice bonus IF and WHEN the project is completed.

Well it finally happened! Brian is gone. It is his fault that the company began to fail for the following reasons:

first, he trusted all of his subordinates beneath him, all who constantly lied to him and told him untruths.

second, most of these "subordinates beneath him" in positions of Directors on down to the Aircraft Managers themselves do not hold the experience to hold those positions. Out of the four Directors of the company only two of them have the past experience to do their job competently all others are just people that Brian saw that "je ne sais pas que" that only he saw and promoted them instead of hiring someone with the proper qualifications with a resume to support it! This also goes for the Management team beneath the Directors, they are all highly inexperienced at managing people, never mind aircraft!

third, airplanes came for a while, they came in one sudden surge because the management team couldn't control the salesmen from getting them in an organized timely manner (maybe Brian had something to do with this), but they bit off more than they could chew off with most of their airplanes with major "blue chip" customers ALL leaving out late due to improper manpower levels to support each aircraft.

fourth, in addition to this, from the beginning of 2009 to the present the inexperience has exposed the Planning Department as one of the biggest culprits for the reason jetBlue left! A planning department lead by a Director who has no experience at all in Planning or any other position of upper management!

It is unfortunate for the employees and for the taxpayers also that this company's internal workings have been kept hush hush for the longest time! It is no fault of GLDC or anyone else that had Commodore (Empire Aero Center) come up from Florida. This is all due to internal mismanagement and maybe Brian Olsen keeping a blind-eye towards the true reality of what was happening to his company or so driven to achieve his prospective numbers to the IAI Board of Directors pressured him into bringing in more airplanes that could be maintained efficiently, damage free and with an on-time delivery with the amount of people at his disposal and proper planning and management of each project, instead of the haphazard way of putting out one fire to get to the next fire and not achieving anything resulting in negative customer satisfaction. jetBlue is not here because the rate is too high per hour of maintenance, they are not here because their aircraft didn't go out-on-time and they went to another company that can provide that for them! They wanted to be here, it's very close to NYC (their hub) they didn't want to got to Florida or San Salvador, but these two MRO's get them what they what, they want...on-time-delivery!

Good bye Brian, you gave it your all, you are to blame because you are the President but it wasn't all your fault...the fault still exists. Extreme change needs to occur for this to ever work again!

Name some names of the incompetent mgmt team!!! I would assume that I have worked with them in the past. Many incompetents in the area float around in high ranking positions in local companies. They run one company into the ground and then move onto another!!!!

ROME - Empire Aero Center's new maintenance contract with JetBlue Airways Corp., and potential deals like it, are part of a plan to attract almost 700 more jobs in the next five years, Empire Aero President Brian Olsen said.

The two companies signed a contract at a Monday news conference at Empire Aero's facility at Griffiss Business and Technology Park in Rome Monday. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, state and local officials, and Empire Aero employees attended.

Empire Aero is on track to continue strong employment and business growth since its relocation from Miami to Rome in January 2004, according to the company's officials. The company employs about 350 people, 100 of whom have been hired this year leading up to this contract.

Empire Aero's business plan calls for the company to have 1,000 employees within the next five years, Olsen said.

The Utica-Rome area lost 600 manufacturing jobs between October 2005 and October 2006, and 3,300 manufacturing jobs between October 2001 and October 2006, he said.

"Our thought process was, when Griffiss closed, of all our aviation options, we thought maintenance had the strongest potential," said Steve DiMeo, president of Mohawk Valley EDGE, a Rome-based economic development agency serving Oneida and Herkimer counties.

Empire Aero's taking over the space two years ago is considered a coup, especially given the company's hiring pace, officials said.

The company is optimistic about its ability to find qualified mechanics, particularly with the inception of Mohawk Valley Community College's new airframe and power plant program nearby.

Ten students are currently in the program's first class, but each of the three classes held per year can accommodate 25 students.

Apparently SNAFU has quite the insight to all the individuals resumes as they appear to be very well versed on the named individuals previous work experience. Unfortunately SNAFU must have been researching incorrect files as the years of experience he is quoting appears to be flawed. It is easy to be critical with words-- but if SNAFU really saw issues at EAC what did he do to try and improve the process????

SNAFU what position do you hold at EAC? Obviously if you know that Dave Geyer is an acting aircraft manager you are one of the lucky ones who are still employed. Seeing that you put the blame on eveybody but production (the mechanics) my guess is that you are one. Dont you think that the lack of self-motivation, work ethics, and sense of urgency, on productions part, had even just a little to do with empires ability to deliver an aicraft on time.

Hey Mee thinks its not Randy. Me thinks it is another RB that works here. R = RICARDO AND B = BACALLAO 4555 = the amount of reasons he comes up with not to do his job. laid off employee it is understandable that you are upset after being laid off. But by now there has to been a night where you laid awake unable to sleep thinking that you should have worked harder to help the company. where you one of the empire "couples"? You know who im talking about. One of those guys who always worked with the same guy. When one had to go potty the other followed. When one went to get a bolt or nut the other followed. How about when you needed a manual ref. Did you have a buddy that held your hand on the way to the computer then sat there wasting time with you? These things are the "root cause" of empires down turn. When something is said to those "couples" they work harded at finding reasons to get out of doing the job than they do actually getting it done. You guys can blame it on mismanagement all you want but deep in your hearts you guys, that are the real culprits, know who you are. a wise man once said "wage is an obligation not a gift". Too many people around here think its a gift and until that changes it doesn't matter who manages us the outcome will be the same

well acftmech669 I did put an honest days work in but was always baffled on when they had certain jobs come in (gearchange, drop an engine, apu change etc.),that they never planned for these. Countless times there were insufficient tooling or broken and had to be sent out to be repaired. Me and and my fellow mechanics always used our ingenuity to keep production going. If management would just listen to our concerns, most of the production problems could of been corrected. Not all management is to blame, hands were tied with some and they weren't listened to either.I can go on and on about ways to fix the operation but who would listen?

I was just informed that you made an assumption that RandB4555 is myself. Nice try but anyone who knows me knows damn well that I have no reason to hide my identity. I have never hid inthe past and I don't hide behind smoke and mirrors. So whoever you ARE you can take great pleasure in being a coward and hiding your identity because you don't have the BALLS to tell people who you are. If you have something to say to me say it directly to me otherwise keep your comments to yourself...Rick Bacallao
