Hello! I was born Feb 23/1974 and I was adopted. The only info that i have is that my birthmother tried to take care of me herself till i was 3 months old and she gave me up for adoption.. My birth name was Beverly... My birth mother also had her gull bladder out right after giving birth me to... I was born in Utica NY and adopted in Utica NY.... Hoping to find my birth mother...

I like you was also adopted after being born in Utica in the early 70's (only St Luke's and Faxton were the hospitals, from what I was told) and adopted locally. One of only a couple places back in the early 70's that did adoptions was Catholic Charities and almost always with an attorney involved. Back then, a lot was kept secret and it was not out there like in today's world. Research what you can at the state office building, many people you can meet with for advice (go through social services), get all paperwork you can find (anything your adoptive parents may have received..it may have a judges name, docket number to reference with dates), talk to caseworkers, search old newspaper articles around the date/time you were born (all on microfilm and easy accessible), check with Oneida County records. I've been told, it's not that hard anymore. If your documents were sealed in courts, it may be a bit more involved. Be prepared for EVERYTHING! Please choose wisely...You may wish you didn't know. Sometimes, a piece of paper isn't always going to fill an absence and make things right or answer any/all questions. Things happen for a reason that we don't always understand and/or want to. Hopefully either way, you're happy with your decision.. Best wishes and good luck in your search. May you find peace and closure along with happiness.:)

I was born in Utica in the early 60s. At that time, St. Elizabeth also had a maternity ward. That's where I was born and my adoption was through catholic charities. Please register with NYS for non identifying and identifying information. Also register with nyadoptees.com a search group on yahoo. They have amazing search angels that have many resources to get information.

Meant to say did she have 5 and they all was up for adoption together or had one then gave them up one by one? My birth mother had kept me for 3 months then gave me up... Would this be Barb Tanner

Please be very careful going by any info you receive on here. Utica Topix is the worst of any cities that I have read. There is so much trash on here, it's unreal. If you look up topix for other cities, there are very few threads. Utica has hundreds of posts. Read through them and see the garbage people are posting. There's nothing wrong with trying on here, but please be careful what you believe. You are much better off joining search groups on yahoo or Facebook. The search angels on yahoo are wonderful. You need to register with NYS too. It can take months to get some info but once I got it and have it to the yahoo group, within one hour I received an email with info on who they thought was my birth mom. I followed their lead, and it was my birth mom. Please be careful in your search.
