Was this serious?? This is the reason a lot of people question sports officials. Joe was a football official for yrs and after reading this commentary it makes you wonder. I'd hate to be a team in a playoff race w notre dame and have joe on your game... Sounds like a guy that would let a couple flags fly if it would help good old UND! I'm sure a lot of coaches are kinda tee'd off reading this thinking back to having joe and playing Notre Dame. It makes you wonder!

So, because this official disagrees with influential parents getting a coach suspended and then fired because he didn't play their brat who missed a week of practice, that means he couldn't be a fair official?

Sorry to break this to you, about 95% of people who know about this situation, agree with Joe Briggs. You represent the unenlightened 5%.

False... I could care less about that cess pool up on burrstone rd. I'm questioning that if a guy feels so passionate about Und, would he influence a game in favor of und??? Wether it be a und game that joe officiated or a game of a division rival who notre dame needed to lose etc... The commentary is puzzling

The longer that the administration at ND waits to publically acknowledge their mistake in allowing 'special access' for 'elite parents' to their decision making process, the worse their reputation grows.
It may already be to late to rectify the situation at hand. The future here was bleak and is now degenerating.

ND is toast- hear the chant echoing now "IT'S ALL OVER" bum bum bumbumbum... "IT'S ALL OVER"! Besides the extreme price, poor quality education overall (unless you compare it to the pre-common core curriculum Utica or Rome schools) and bad administration and politics, etc, catholicism is dying as a religion, AND cHRISTIAN evangelical and/or Fundamentalism rising (thank god)... So, "IT'S ALL OVER"!

I totally agree with the poster. Briggs says his kids played sports at ND and he is an avid supporter of the school. Then he admits he has officiated many ND games. Before you label me, I totally agreed with Abraham not letting the kids who didn't practice not play. It's just amazing to me that a guy with such ties to a school gets to officiate games there.

When a committee or board runs anything nothing gets done . There needs to be one person in charge that is capable of making decisions and standing by them. The buck should stop with the principal.

Imagine if u were Frankfort. Ur in a tight playoff race w und and playing a must win game vs somebody else. Joe Briggs shows up to do your game. You might question some calls. Makes ya wonder now.... Doesn't it

I gotta believe every ref in the area probably went to school around here, and no doubt reffed in a game that included thier old school. What are they supposed to do ,schedule every ref so that they don't ever work one of their alma maters game? give me a break

Agree, happens all the time in EVERY sport, wake up people! Every official is biased in some way for or against certain schools.

Yah they should.... Unless you can be totally unbiased. If u were a notre dame basketball player, u should not be reffing
their games.... Especially if you love notre dame basketball. If u were a rfa football player you should not ref rfa football.... Former proctor baseball players should not be umping proctor baseball etc....
I watched cooper decks dad do a nh Jv basketball game last yr... Ridiculous

We have both a board and one person making decisions, not the Super but the AD and both are incompetent

Iíve known Joe Briggs for over fifty years. He is, without a doubt, one of the best football referees I know. I have never seen him show favoritism to any team. That is not the way he works. I have seen him ref games from Pop Warner through high school and he is a true professional. To even think that he would favor one team over another is an insult to his integrity.

To see dishonesty in someone else, you must first see it in yourself.

Joe is a good guy but what do you know about football??? Do you sit in the stands and watch the officials??? Do u watch film and see if they made good calls?? No no and more no.
The opinion just struck me funny and it's just a open conversation..... But for a football official to come out in the paper and make commentary about notre dame athletics in general and football specifically is weird.
Sports officials can shift a game one way or the other w just 1 call at the right time.... You think no hs official has ever favored 1 team more than another??
