Please help settle a friendly disagreement we are having-I say there was a Drive-In movie theater in New Hartford, probably still was there in the late 70's. It was on Commercial Drive, near where Toys R Us is currently. At the time, it was next to a small shopping center/strip mall. Can anyone confirm this?

Thank you for the response. There used to be a few around, also one in Schuyler, I think. But the creepiest one was in Marcy, near the psych center.

There wasn't anything "creepy" about this Drive-In. Don't you remember the pretty Waterfall they had when you drove up to the ticket counter? Back when I was young (many years ago), this was the place to go on a Saturday night and bring the kiddies along with our home made popcorn and soda. We had a Station Wagon with a twin matress in the back where the kids would fall asleep when they got tired. Those were the "good old days"!!!

Yep. Probably around where Price Chopper is now. And the New Hartford Cinema was where Toys R Us is too.

And across the street was a swamp where Sangetown is. I remember going by there while they build it.

Laz-
There is a pictute of the sign for that New Hartford Drive In:(very cool site as well:)

Yes, the drive in was in the area where "Price Chopper" is. The Kallets also opened a beautiful movie theater where "Toys R Us" is. Notre Dame High school held their graduations there.
Across the street was "Bauder's Motel" that had a neat miniature golf course. "Ethan Allen Furniture" replaced the drive in. Hamilton College students would always steal the statue of Ethan Allen. They also would steal the "g" from the "Black Angus" in Kirkland, and white out the "ton" on the "Sexton" real estate signs, LOL!!:)

The site was great. I had forgotten all about the movie theater-"Paris Cinema, New Hartford".
Also, had forgotten the water fountain at Marcy Drive-In as someone mentioned above.

'83 was the final season? I could have sworn I saw a movie there in '89 with a bunch of friends. I suppose it's possible we were in Marcy, but I really thought we were in New Hartford. Oh well. I still remember going to the New Hartford Drive-In in the 70's. Always had a lot of fun.

At least the one in Rome is still open. I think that's the last drive-in theater left around here.

There was a drive-in hamburger restaurant in New Hartford called the Wynot , located on Seneca Turnpike where Dunkin Donuts
now stands. The building was metal and painted yellow The hamburgers, chili dogs, fries and milk shakes were so good I can still taste the food if I think about it. The owners sold the place in the late 1960s and moved to Washington State. The place was always packed right up to the time it closed but I have never found anyone else who remembers it. Please help me prove that I am not crazy and ask your grandparents if they remember this classic American drive-in..

Drive-ins were always fun. I remember my parents loading all of us in the car putting out a blanket and watching Swiss Family Robinson like it was yesterday . Great memories . We lost something when they starting closing .

Remember it well. But, it was a time when even the ''drive-ins" served good food.
The Chili Hut was across the road where KFC stands now. It was also good.
