88 more layoffs. Now classes will be in excess of 34 per grade level. Test scores will go down and the state will come in and take over the district. Wonderfully run. How many are going from administration?

I was thinking the same, we can't afford to lose more teachers.
What about Athletic Menagers, Supervisors (4 of them)what do we need them for, Attendance officers etc
This is all BS.

need a better school board that knows how to handle a multi-million dollar budget. People that are not ties to anyone in the district that can make the tough decisions that need to be made without worrying about "backscratching."

Too bad when the administrators decide who will be laid off they can't choose the teachers who are poor performers-instead they have to go by seniority due to NYSUT.

There is alot of excess in that school district and they need to just get rid of it all. Honestly, they should lay off every teacher in that district and then hire back the ones that actually do their job.

Yep, Brucie boy, take care of your boys. How does Guido's son get paid to hang around Proctor under the guise of 'floating sub' and get paid every day? To talk to security! Yep, lets layoff 88 teachers but leave your brother Richie and niece, Eva alone. Business isn't mandated. Like Eva does anything worthwhile but surf the internet. T.A. Barb Washington continues to do nothing except socialize all day.

Get rid of all the retirees who come back to leech off the system. There are so many young, certified, qualified teachers who want and need a job. Another point, hire utica residents. Why does the district hire teachers from syracuse? Are there no qualified teachers in our area?

This School Board is top heavy with too many "Administers" that contribute nothing to the education of our students. Where are the cuts to these "Administers"?

There is an old saying - "Sh*t runs downhill" and this is exactly what the School Board has done by laying off 88 teachers

They say 54 teachers,11 ta.s, custodians, and only 4.5 administrators. How about getting rid of ASL the dead weight who chair cse meetings. They collect 90,000 plus to sit in on meetings. I wish three public knew how much waste the district has at the top. Be ready. The state will come in and lady waste to the district and all the friends and family will be out the suite. Too bad when it happens, the true culprits off this sham will be drinking mojitos in their Florida retirement communities and the younger admins will be stuck picking up this financial disaster. You trap what you Dow. This school board has ruined a great district by being puppeteers of each and every superintendent they have has since Loeengard took his lifetime health benefits to syracuse about 10 years ago. Ask the frontlines what they need. These admins haven't been in a classroom or have been give so long, they don't know what the schools are like.

LaPolla quotes that the budget is CATASTROPHIC. Then why the hell does ELEFANTE have a non mandated do nothing job at $120,000 plus benefits. That salary would keep 4 young teachers employed and save them from moving out of the area. What about it LOU, you claim to be the taxpayers watchdog. Youe just full of it like the rest of the board. ALL IN IT JUST TO BE SEEN,HAVEN'T YOU PEOPLE RUINED ENOUGH LIVES.

TOTALLY AGREE!!!!!

This is exactly why the City of Utica has been slowly heading for the financial woes we are currently facing. It has ALWAYS been the same old "connected" people that run for Office and their friends and relatives make sure they get elected.

Just another reason why New York State Attorney General Office needs to come to Utica and take over the handling of the financial mess Utica is in and start making cuts, eliminate all the Cadillac Health Plans and replace them with ones that are affordable and in line with what the rest of us have.

The state has neither the inclination nor the ability to "take over" the district. If you think, for just a minute, why would state government want to dirty its hands on a filthy district like ours.
The 'test scores' etc have been low and unacceptable by state standards for decades and they have done nothing. The state will continue to do nothing. It is up to the taxpayers to oust the corrupt and proclaim loudly and publicly that things need to change. I can't quite see it happening.
