There is nothing wrong with being openly gay or choosing to live closeted .. It's when closeted gay people of power vote to withhold and deny civil rights of the LGBT community that they are a part of and are suposed to be serving.
Fear is a horrible emotion..to hide your true self for fear of what others might think or do, even if it's your mother, family, or church who "might" reject.
There are Republican state legislators who voted on the side of "gay" equality and justice! They were all re-elected.
It is not the gay community's duty to "out" politicians until they strip our rights away.
Joe must live with the choices he has made. They could be very costly.

I cannot respect a person dishonest about his own reality. Joe is a liar in his sexual orientation. He cannot therefore be trusted in anything else in life. Until he is honest with himself...he asks too much when he asks for my support.

WEll, I have heard for years he was gay. He was associated with certain gay men for years, even before he was mayor. He was known to go out of town to relieve his desires.
The last Jimmy Gillette from Rome NY was friends with Joe and used to take out of town trips to Gay bars in other cities.
That came from Jimmy himself, and all knew his orientation. The wife, was a good idea to promote his carreer and a good cover for someones sexuality who might still be in the Closet, especially as you try to climb the political Ladder.
YEZSSSSSSSSSSSSS he is GAYYYYYYYYY

So he was going to gay bars with a known pedophile? That's just great!

Politics is often vicious, and political rivals will stoop to anything to try to bring the other office holder down. The papers have reported that there is bad blood between Mayor Brown and Griffo, so there are plenty of reasons the rumors about Griffo persist.
Why wouldn't there be bad blood between Mr.Griffo and Brown? Joe did a helluva good job seeing that he was left to pick up the mess left by the previous mayor. Besides that he made improvements for Rome citizens across the board and fostered much goodwill at the same time.He was approachable,accessable and open.
Now the mirror image;
Brown does what he wants and couldn't care less about the people,except of course the bank rollers that got behind him and pushed,and I must believe more than a few of them are sorry they did so.
Unapproachable,aloof,tantrum of a 16 year old girl,not above creating vicious rumors concerning those he deems "anti-brown"

The late Mr.Gillette was first and foremost a pedophile.I think that speaks volumes about his character.
For those that call yourself "Romans" here is a clue,its ok to be gay. If you ever left that half horse town (guess which half) you would learn your homophobia is rather unfounded. Most of these people are otherwise upstanding and active in the community.Lets remember that same sex couple that prettied up a wasteland on N.James St,before your brownspot ran them off the city project. Let us also call to mind that high profile business man who did much for your town before he passed away a few years back. Will I name them? I shouldn't have to,and what does it matter? Did you want to throw a link of sausage on their front lawn in some obscure form of protest or as a "joke"? Am I one of them? Hell no,my @$$)-(o1E is exit only. Am I frightened of them? Again,hell no. I am much more frightened of the archaic way of thinking that controls your silly little burg. One thing this brownspot will never have is culture,because that would mean accepting ideas contrary to your own. How sad for the many that are controlled by the few.

Still, there has never been any bill that Griffo fought harder for than the MMA bill to allow these tournaments to be held statewide. How much revenue can these events generate? Griffo cried and begged for his bill to pass. Was this for his own personal gratification?
