Dear Angelo:

I read the Editorial in the Observer Dispatch today. I love Utica because you can promise and promise and promise and you don't have to do anything and can get away with it.

Look at your Uncle and his chief henchman, The Weasel.

This post is not by the "real" Citizen Kane. I am the real Citizen Kane and I have only constructive things to say. And once and for all, Dave Roefaro is not Angelo's Uncle!

Let's try to be more positive. There ARE some things that living in Utica that are better than living in larger cities. For instance, take Westchester County outside of New York City for instance. A house that can be bought in Utica for approximately $75,000 will cost you around $400,000 in Westchester - it will take you AND your wife to both work at professional jobs and willing to commute ONE WAY to work at least an hour in bumper to bumper traffic. To make sure you and your family are safe from harm, you will also need to install a Central Station Alarm system to keep the bad guys from robbing your home. Remember, the grass is NOT always greener on the other side.

And then there's the person who can afford a house in Westchester AND here, and the wife doesn't work! It's called betterment of yourself. There's positives to both sides but Mohawk Valley isn't exactly a quality of life sorta place to most!

Got to do better than this. In Utica yo may get a house cheap, but there are few career positions or ways to better yourself, unless you commute to Syracuse, an hour each way, and I have done this for years and it is not a bad trip. If you want to compare crime rates, Utica's overall rate (all crimes) is above the norm for a city of 60,000. So it is here you need the central station alarm. The traffic is not bumper to bumper all of the time, but if you ever went into Syracuse or Albany at rush hour you have the same grind. Utica has not worried about rush hour traffic in 30 years, I would trade the traffic problem (and ensuing employment)for empty rush hour street.
Sometime you need greener. Unless you wish an apathetic life.

So true. It's comical when uticans bring up commute times and traffic. It's that way guys because it's a desirable location. I literally can get anywhere yo anywhere in utica in five minutes. Just shows me how dead that "city" is.

The best way to see utica is from the thruway driving through as fast as you can.
I find it comical that a Walmart is visible as you see the great utica sign. It's fitting. Lol!
