Since living here in Utica I have noticed one thing about WKTV news then the Syracuse news channel, They start off the news something like this: In California wildfires continue to spread. In China the government is telling people to have kids. Oh and here in Utica there has been a shooting in Corn hill. Now come on don't you think a news TV should be broadcasting more about what is happening here in Utica then starting off the news about what is happening else where? If you watch WTVH 5 you will notice that they start off the news about the area first and also report about Utica. Wake up WKTV we don't want to see what is happening else where first!!

The WKTV news casts are horribly produced. They jumped the shark right after their competition, WUTR, went off the air

That's because the 5 minute local story is usually all they have for the day. Hence the need to fill up the other 10 minutes of the news segment with national and world stories. The Utica area is so small that local newsworthy events can be read about in the OD or learned about via word of mouth. There is really no need to have a television station with its own network affiliate.

And, if I'm not mistaken, it seems as if WKTV airs local news shows not just at 11PM each night, but also at 5PM and 5:30PM. This seems like a lot of time allotted to an area the size of Utica where a girl's softball tournament and a Corhill robberty make up the daily news fodder on most days.

Totally agree. WKTV, like the OD, is a travesty as a news organization. Lousy coverage is par for the course most days, and most of the anchors are very unprofessional, both in terms of skill and appearance (would it kill the women to brush their hair once and a while!?!).

I watch WTVH and read the Post Standard for local news coverage because both are far superior than what we have in Utica.

WKTV's newscasters have no sense of appearance. Kristen Copeland always looks like a sheepdog just in from a rainstorm, Joleene Ferris looks like she's allergic to hair brushes, and then there's Steve McMurray and his ass hair goatee! No wonder the local newscasts suck!!!

Leave Kristen alone, she's adorable. Megan Koskovich is nice too! I really miss Andrea Bullard (sexy as hell), but at least I can see her on WSTM Channel 3!

Skeet, Skeet, Skeet!

However, getting to the matter at hand. I don't think Utica needs or can sustain a TV market. It should have been combined with Syracuse. Heck, we get CBS from Syracuse now!

Wow! You people must all have doctorate degrees in journalism and MBAs from Harvard! Such brilliance! So....why still living in the booming metropolis of Utica or Oneida???? Never really did make it to the big time, huh? Just rag on everyone else--you'll feel better.

Shows what you know, getalife - I live in Manhattan and am a successful copywriter (Topix assigned me the Oneida, NY tag). But I'm from Utica and visit often because I have lots of friends and family here, and so I catch WKTV news and read the OD from time to time, and I stand by my comments. I find our local media to be a travesty. The OD was always known as the Observer Disgrace from the time of my childhood in the 70s, but KTV actually used to be fairly good. Alas, not any more.

I just watched the news from a NYC station and it looked like it was produced by fifth graders. So your point, or lack there of, is Moot.

A "Women of WKTV" spread would be cool!

My top picks are (past and present):

Andrea Bullard

Kristen Copeland

Megan Koskovich

Jill Reale

Karey Kirkpatrick

Kyla Campbell

Heather Kovar

Kristen Lowman

Just to name a few ....

Skeet, Skeet, Skeet!

Megan looks and acts like nothing more than a young, inexperienced girl fresh out of college - that NEVER should have picked journalism as a career. She is terrible.

I agree, especially at the 6'oclock news cast....that's what the 6:30 NATIONAL news is for. they should change the 5 o'clock news hour to 5:30 to 6:30 as it is now it's way too long and filled with nothing. and then some stories are repeated at 6

Who is responsible for the content that gets on the air? I find many of the things mentioned here to be true.
The early morning news is in general a rehash of the night before' broadcast, a few things read from the OD and weather. If you watch the first five minutes or so that's all you need to see. With all of the controversy and crime locally you would think that they could easily fill a half hour with fresh news.
As for on air talent I think Utica is a small market that is used as a proving ground. WKTV people either move on to greener pastures or fall by the wayside and pursue other careers. Bill Worden and Joleen Ferris being the exceptions. They're lifers.

Meg looked smokin' in that hot pink top this AM!!! It really showed off what a lovely rack she has. I got my Skeet on this morning!!!!

However, Kristen should lose the glasses at 5. They don't work on her. Don't get me wrong, she's still adorable.

Since Megan and Don have started the fake happy chatty newshour in the morning, I've switched to Ch 5. Megan is obviously "faking the cheer" and it's annoying. Utica does not need a happy giddy morning show; especially one hosted by puff the magic dragon and megan, who looks stoned. Also, I can recall 3 times she has mentioned being a vegetarian on air...Why do we need to know this?
