The article in today's paper is riddled with "tweets" between the victim and the murderer. This is what reporting has come to? To relay electronic messages between two people? This seems like a gross invasion of privacy regardless if the "Twitter" was public. Frankly, Twitter and Fscebook is for geeks and pedophiles. I cannot believe this reporter would think it's good journalism to transcribe this girl's tweets. Pathetic.

You dont REALLY think Donna D. would send a reporter out there do you??

She'll get the scoop from her soccer mom friends and drinking buddies. Remember, this is the OD. They get their info by making phone calls and reading Topix.

The OD has not handled this story poorly. Social media has become a huge part of who we are as a society and where we get legitimate information. Any communication that transpired between them over the past few weeks would be crucial to piecing together what led up to that horrible event. Anyone of their friends could read was written and probably shared it with whomever they wanted. Twitter is OUT THERE for everyone to see. Social media is the equivalent to using reference texts or books of years passed. It's completely fair game for them to print.

Yes, a lot of info comes from Social Media, but has the OD even sent anyone out there yet or will they on Thursday when he's arraigned?

IMO the OD is sugar coating the fact that a beautiful young girl was brutally murdered by her hot shot hockey star boyfriend. What dfference does it make what was tweeted earlier last week? The point is, she is now dead at his hands.
Hope he has the decency to plead guilty and spare her family the heartache of a trial.

The Observer-Dispatch is "written" by the lowest of the low. DeVry University graduates or their equivalent. I agree that using someone's Twitter conversation is bad journalism and seems like it's disturbing to the dead. If she were my daughter, I would not want her facebook messages and such published in the newspaper. It's called having respect for the dead.

Nobody from the OD, thats for sure, but when you have a major news story like this, most papers would send a reporter. Maybe the OD would have done that 20 years ago.

Someone inform Donna D. there's a brewery near there and she'll be right on it to get a couple of cold ones.

The best part is the OD was quoted at the ABC site but they pulled it down and had a Syracuse Standard paper's piece up there as of today because of a few inaccuracies and conclusions. Way to go Donna! You lose at every turn!

I wonder if the fact that the O-D newsroom is managed by Pam Holmes, who is the outgoing president of the New Hartford High Scool Hockey Boosters has anything to do with the "reporting"?

Pam's son Joe and Clay were teammates and very good friends and teammates under Spartans head coach and promoter of alcohol to kids, Carson Cunningham.

This is absolutely disgusting. An young, innocent life was lost and two families were shattered. Stop focusing on the negative and show some respect.

I think the whole story is a negative. And what respect should be shown to a violent women beater. Dumb Ass

The OD reporting is twisted but one cannot expect much better. However, out of respect for the family, they should be reporting the FACTS only. Not the twitting messages. This should be reserved for the murder trial and the OD really needs to watch it. Their credibility is already in the sh*tter.

social media is for people that have no lives. life is short. get away from the phone and computer and actually live it. instead of living in an imgainary cyber world where you feel loved. computer don't love you. friends on facebook aren't really your friends. it's all an illusion.

The OD is obviously a low-quality paper, and their web site is horrible to use: it consists mainly of ads, with almost no content. Donna Donovan is inept, and she really destroyed the paper. She held a personal grudge against SUNYIT for years and used the paper to exact revenge; she's completely unprofessional. It's well known that the OD doesn't cover stories that are against her personal interests.

One thing they fixate on is catering to advertisers, which is why they are making such a fuss about one murder: they want to demonstrate to advertisers that the OD has readers in Utica's wealthy suburb. Pretty young girl from New Hartford is murdered by her hockey-star boyfriend; that's the OD's bread and butter.
