There's a big surprise. Not. They've done it for a long time.

read the article carefully, it really does nothing to the programs, but it does put them under the micro-scope so to speak.

I did read it, I work in higher education and worked directly with UC. This has an impact and despite the diplomatic tone of the article and UC's press release, UC consciously violated the NCAA rules on recruiting and financial aid for athletes.

Is there an individual(s) where the blame falls?

Thought he retired? I guess it officially became someone else's mess to clean up? What a legacy. They'll have to use an *

That is what I get from the article. Shame. That was a positive thing for the area. Ruined for what?

No postseason ban. And no coincidence that Jim Spartano resigned almost exactly two years ago.
Gotta love when the former Director of Student Financial Services "self reports" her former employer - like anyone at that college has the integrity to "self report."

They only got in trouble because the financial aid was for WHITE hockey players...if ut was for minorities for nothing they would get a prize

"The NCAA sanctioned the Utica College athletics program Thursday. The penalties came as the result of an investigation into the college’s financial aid programs for Canadian student-athletes.

The penalties are:
Two years probation.
A postseason ban for any team with players still receiving financial aid through the Canadian International Student Award program.
Public reprimand and censure.
Increased oversight from the NCAA.

College officials said they ceased the program after the 2011-12 school year, and that none of their student-athletes are receiving CISA financial aid anymore, meaning all of their teams will be eligible for postseason play for this coming season."

Here is the article word for word. I am sorry but people are not reading this correctly, and I think you may be misinterpreting what is written. They aren't banned, just put under the microscope... and much more closely scrutinized.
As for the tone, yeah very diplomatic, and coming from the OD, would you expect anything less.

"A postseason ban for any of the college’s teams whose rosters include one or more student-athletes receiving CISA awards." That could include more than just ice hockey and baseball.

So much for recruiting athletes. What a slap in the face to all the hard working folks and the college board of directors. This intentional error was done to circumvent rules. What kind of message does this send students when you have staff cheating the system?

Lol! Guess the comets really don't have to worry about "scheduling conflicts" with UC anymore! Lol

they will not ban them from playing, this really does prove that the only way they ever got any where is from cheating. They never would have had a strong team if it wasn't for the Canadian players on the team. The local boys who live in Moose Mansion are worth less players.

That's a lie haha! There's no such thing as "higher education" or "hard working" associated with UC or any OTHER upstate NY school. Look around you and see how great those schools are!
