i have worked with northern for about 6 months and would say it is the greatest company i have ever seen. No matter where you work right now layoffs are possible.

Northern Safety is thinking of the future and making neccesary adjustments to get through the current economic conditions.

We will be sending out our new 2009 catalog and have added 100 pages and we are always thinking of ways to please our customers including offering free samples on many product for buisness accounts.

Sal longo is the most down to earth generous boss i have ever worked for, he is right here from Utica and he is one of us. Knowing Sal and the way he runs his buisness we will weather the storm and come out stronger than ever.

In 25 years of buisness this was the first time we were forced to have layoffs nobody wants to have to do it but with the economy the way it is efficiancy is a top priority aside from customer satisfaction.

Not to mention Northern Safety does alot for the community our involvement with the boilermaker and local charities like the united way.

Inside and out Northern Safety is a company other buisnesses could learn from and i take alot of pride in the fact that i am employed there.

I was at that their christmas/employee apreciation party. I have to say hats off to that company. In my entire 20 plus years of working for employers in this area, I never ever had a christmas party like that. They treat their employees quite well if you want to compare them to the other private owned buisnesses. The economy isnt GREAT... and its no secret. Some time you have to make cut backs. I think this business is going to continue to expand becuase its run on the basis that they care about their driving force of employees. Thank you Sal Longo and northern safety for putitng on a wonderful party. and thank you for the community support u give.

Mr Hydroponic,(to spell it correctly since you're obviously illiterate) People like you are just jealous and can't stand to see other people get ahead who work hard. Sal Longo and Northern Safety have created alot of jobs in this area. He has helped countless people. What have you done??? But I guess in this small minded town, if you do well for yourself, lazy bastards like yourself can't stand it. You only with you had a tenth of the brain he does,(and that's probably giving you more than you deserve) Instead of downing other people who have done well, maybe you should try and do something for yourself with your time, instead of writing mindless posts on this website.

if Sal could of forseen the future im quite sure he would have done just that.. Fact is the party is planned so far in advance that it not only was a holiday party but also a 25th celebration of a hard earned company that grew and grew.
as far as the layoffs they where permanent cuts not layoffs. The individuals recieved a severance. sal could have just layed them off with false hopes of returning. but he didn't. the employees now have to lose a half day a week pay till further notice. I think everyone is going to feel the pinch but its better than laying off more... I give this company credit for taking things up front and dealing with the hard changes at hand. Their new catalogue comes out soon and in hopes that this new pres. elect will pass this bill so that construction can again start across the country and bring prosperity to these hard workers at Northern safety.

I had an interview like 2 years ago and the interviewer didnt even have the guts to look me in the eye when i was giving her answers to her pitiful questions. furthre more you have to have your last name end in a vowel to work there. So you tell me why they have a bunch of retards working there im suprised that company survived as long as it did lol I hope they are happy giving their laid off employees an early stimulus package!! For you unemployed people from this company sit home and collect the benefits from them as long as you can!!! if they are paying who cares haha

Money is thicker than blood. Sue your own brother for ownership of the company. Pure greed. Family is the most important thing, yeah right, it's not personal just business. What a useless cliche. As far as i'm concerned Sal is a scumbag, always has been but now he just has money. Money can't buy class or integrity.

I feel that some people on here do not have any buisness sense.

The party was paid for roughly a year before the layoffs. The layoffs had to happen in buisness this happens from time to time.

Companies like general electric have had countless layoffs and even closed our broad st plant many years ago.

Although layoffs have occured we are still If not the best one of the greatest places to work in N.Y state.

Mark my words Sal will not fail once the economy gets better and our customers dont have to squeeze quarters anymore we will be back on top.

Knowing full well the thourough interview process at northern safety what you quoted tells me alot of things about yourself.

The interview process is about 4 steps sounds like you made it to the first one. I bet you didn't know anything about the company or what we do and just strolled in to take a crack at it.

Northern Safety isn't your typical interview where you give some garbage essay style answers and expect a job. We want the best and the best are all that will be hired.

We want a certain type, people passionate about customer service and it's not so much based on your experiance in the past, or how nice your resume is, or even if you have a record.

At northern safety you are judged when you interview we see who youare and what your about. We like candor the ability to state how you feel without sugar coating your answers but without being a fool. We encourage any employee to bring forward any thoughts or ideas.

You might have dressed up real nice and thought you gave intelligent answers and they may have been intelligent answers. However they were not the answers that Northern Safety was looking for we want one type the best .

And i also would address the fact that Northern Safety in no way discriminates agains race, sex, or creed. We just want the best because the way we want our customers taken care of only the best can provide.

You simply weren't Northern Material try APAC

Ha! This is priceless.

Sal will cut your throat just like those "seven" others. You're nothing more than an employee on a time sheet.

Sal's not a bad guy...and he runs a great business...but before you toot his "ahem" horn, know that you're a nobody.

And yes...that $40,000 party went on...then they axed people a few days later.
