What is going on in that school , teachers using to much pressure on the students, Teachers not paying attention to the mood changes in their students. Is the peer pressure in that school out of control. Are drugs going on in that school that we don't hear about . Are parents sweeping their childrens cry for help under the carpet.. I would have to start and look at things about suicide out of Whitesboro High...

Since Jeremy Daveau (sp?) took his own life in 1996, that school has been a magnet for suicides. I think that the students hear stories about the others who have done it before and follow in their footsteps. The school, parents, and the comunity all need to present a united front and teach the children that this is not "cool" or a way to get your name remembered. Untill the parents are willing to stand up and become part of their childrens lives, this will continue to happen.

Jeremy wasn't the first. This has been an on going thing since my parents went there. I don't know about the other cases, but in Jeremy's case the school had nothing to do with his doing it.

True, the school didn't have anything to do with Jeremys actions, HOWEVER they didn't handle the after effects at all. They had councelors available but the teachers wouldn't allow students out of class to talk with them. No one in the school addressed the students at all and if a student was heard talking about it they would be told not to discuss it unless they were with a councelor. They did as much as possible to push it under the rug.

you're right. i was in the school at this time, as well as a friend of his. they tried to make it seem as if it never happened. but they did let everyone out of school for the funeral. st pauls was packed with hundreds of kids who didn't know him at all.
if the school would take some time to educate the kids on this, maybe future suicides could be prevented.

I was there at that time as well. It was a sad time for everyone in the comunity. The biggest proof of the school doing everything in their power to ignore it was the year book that year. Each of the 3 students who lost their lives that year had a memorial page in the yearbook. The other two students pages were imagulate, Jer's page showed only his name and his picture. That was the worst slap in the face imaginable for those of us who cared about him.

I heard new Hartford high school has had their own share of suicides that the media ignores. Maybe it's the mentality of the 'upper class' and kids feel like they can't live up to the academic and social standards. Grass isn't always greener.

When you build your town on a tribal burial ground don't be surprised when the spirits harvest their due.

Take a look at the history of Whitestown, beyond the cute little wrestling story, and the reason for the "suicides" becomes obvious. And it isn't something that started in the 90's. This has been going on for over a hundred years.

... i graduated from whitesboro, and i have to say from the time i started to the time i left the school there were no suicides it was only after i got out of school did something happen. to a boy who graduated with me. i do not remember if he attually graduated or not. but during that summer he commetted suicide. not because of school but because of something at home. its not the teachers or the students. everyone has their own problems. and their own ways of handling it. it is said that he felt that killing himself was the best way of solving his, but it is not the school's fault.

The truth is hes partially RIGHT!

Look at that kids obituary at his interests and hobbies:

Whitesboro sports
playing video games
talking to people

There was no future and he probably just took a good long look around him and that was that.

Another one with a poor attitude what a shame you shouldn't be around kids in your way of thinking., Life is a gift from God and way to precious to think like you and the other one that is down in the dumps. If you feel this way than move to another City or State.. Hopeless one do something about your life instead of making teenagers think living her is the end of their life...

WOW, YOU ARE SO RIGHT! but I don't think a kid in high school would be affected by what you said until he/she got into the area's pathetic work-force situation.

I was a student at Whitesboro High School in the late 80's/early 90's and although I had many friends I was picked on by the students that were considered jocks. I had dated a guy and would not have sex with him, after that I was called a slut and other degrading names by his group of friends. All because I refused to sleep with him. The majority of the teachers did nothing to deter this teasing and name calling, in fact one participated in it. I became severely depressed and needed to be home schooled. When my parents attempted to get me home schooled they were told that mental illness (I had severe depression and an anxiety condition) was NOT a disability and therefore I would not be home schooled. My parents took the case up with the school board and I was eventually home schooled but graduated a year late due to their ignorance towards mental illness. That attitude may contribute to why there are issues with suicide in that school district.

Try not to let what happened to you at school ruin your life. I was absolutely tortured at Strough School in Rome and I have never gotten over it but I try every day to climb out of the complex those ba$tards put on me. We did not have home schooling then.
