Utica must start going after losers who live in parents homes which are tax exempt to avoid paying taxes. Sons and daughters are leaving homes in there parents names to escape paying taxes. This is one of the biggest problems in Utica behind lucrative public safety contracts Roefaro gave away.

Why would an indivual be "tax exempt"?

The only tax Seniors do not have to pay is under the Star Program when they are exempt from paying School Taxes (based on low income limitations)

Seniors still have to pay City and County taxes.

Know your facts before you make statements that you know nothing about.

Roefaro would not qualify for senior exemption without his mother.

The house is in his mother's name; she is the one who gets the Star exemption.

Roefaro just lives with his mother - his name is NOT on the deed. the Star exemption only applies to the owner of the property - not who lives with the owner.

Seniors and Veterans and there wives both get tax exemptions. If his Father was a veteran his mom would get that exemption and the Star exemption to. After all said and done the would pay less then a $100.00 dollars a year total on all three taxes.

The Star Program is ONLY for the School Taxes!!!!

There still is the City Taxes (approximately $1,500 a year) and the County Taxes (approximately $700) and, of course, the $98 trash charge for your trash removal.

IF there are "exemptions" to avoid paying the City and County taxes, I never heard of them. If you know something the rest of us don't, please educate us. I never heard of a Veteran getting any tax exemption and maybe many others have not heard about this either.

DiNapoli and the facts he presented say that 37% of city properties are tax exempt and Roefaro never owned a home or paid a tax in his life. You wonder why he didn't hesitate to steal the water board funds and increase taxes at the same time approximately 45%-50% a year.

You are talking two different things here.

The tax exempt properties are churches and other community owned buildings - does NOT mean private residences are "tax exempt".

The only tax exemption that I'm aware of for an individual homeowner is the Star Program which has a income ceiling qualification. If your income exceeds the "cap", a homeowner's share of the School Taxes is still payable based on a percentage of how much of their income if above the cap set by NYS.

As far as Roefaro still living with his Mother, many old time Italians do this. That is his personal business and has nothing to do with his failure as a Mayor of our City and his personal conduct. Most of us have no respect for him regardless of what he does now that he is no longer involved in our lives.

What is the matter - no brains to keep up with the subject? You might learn something instead of using profanity all the time. You have no class at all.

You should care. He still a public figure and runs around and is paid by Schumer and is still for mayors against guns and micro-stamping. He is still very dangerous and against taxpayers and their rights. Taxpayers still have to pay hud and the federal government his dept for mis-using federal funds. Yes, we the taxpayers and he never paid a tax in his life. You better be very worried about this thief and crook because when the smoke clears he is going to make another run for politics as if we are going to forget the debt he left us in and an unfavorable bond rating for years to come. How are we going to forget the looting of the taxpayers reserves to beef up the brotherhoods of blue at the detriment of taxpayers. You may be willing to forget so soon but there are still alot of answers to why, when and how he was allowed to cripple the city and taxpayers for so many more years to come and what political move he might make next? I for one will never forget because every time my taxes go up I can't help to be reminded that it's was Roefaro's fault and his croney administration. Why does he get to hide out in his mothers house and never have to pay any taxes.

You are clueless. There is a tax emption that could be 50 percent of ALL taxesm. Why should Dave get his mothers' tax breaks?

And, what do you think she took her house with her, duh. Dave Roefaro lives in it tax free. Has been his whole life. That's why it was no problem raising taxes and stealing taxpayer money. Do you think if his own mother was paying taxes and he was paying taxes he would have done what he did to the entire city which is whithering away like a 700 lb person who lost 500 lbs.
