According to wutr news tonite the stanley theater is in deep sh*t financially. In an interview with Jerry Krause he claims that the Stanley needs financial help from either the county or state to survive. Cuomo was asked about it at MVCC today & as usual blew smoke up the asz of the reporter. Picente did the same thing when questioned. Krause claims that competition from Picente's pals at the OIN is killing the Stanley. Maybe that's why Picente acted like he could give 2 sh*ts when questioned today. As usual around here, follow the money.

There's a thread here about all the great concerts that used to be held here. Maybe if the snobs that have been running the theater had attempted to compete with the OIN the Stanley wouldn't be in trouble today. But no. The blue bloods running the Stanley were more interested in ballet instead of hosting concerts. Thanks Donna.

My people are telling me that a consortium comprised of Peepers. BenGee's Downtown and a few other movers and shakers are planning to buy the Stanley and bring back old-school burlesque to Utica. Dancers, booze, fine dining and live bands. This could really give downtown a much needed shot in the arm.

But I thought the Stanley Theater backstage expansion partially funded with taxpayer money was a key to turning not only downtown around but the entire region as well. That's what they told us. I specifically remember County Executive Anthony Picente saying that when he explained why Oneida County taxpayers were kicking in a million dollars.

Does it really take a genius to figure out that if you have a fairly new and modern venue less than 30 miles away people will go there? Anyone who's walked up the former Oneida National Bank driveway from the parking lot across the street from the Stanley knows that parking at the OIN is more convenient as well.

I think Jerry Kraus is trying everything he can to make it go but it's a tough battle. It wouldn't matter who was in that position, the circumstance would be the same.

If it's in Utica, it's a dead issue. Utica is a dump and why would you support anything in that loser city. You can't even drive the streets of Utica without being swallowed up by a pot hole (crater ). And you have the most corrupt mayor in history who has no smarts at all. Bye Bye Utica and Stanley.

Here's a solution. Support the Stanley. Buy tickets. Take a look at the performance/show schedule online. There is plenty of community here to support our local theater.

That seems to be the liberal way. Keep throwing TAXPAYER money around at losing projects.

No promoter, no concerts. Nobody is talking about that issue at the Stanley Theater. The Stanley does not have the money to guarantee the artist their money period. There are no promoters interested in bringing in any national touring acts because they have to guarantee the artist the money. Promoters are afraid of this area because the economic situation here and the non supportive attitude people have in this area.

Downtown Utica streets look like Hunter house just released a new batch of vagrants. All it is is a bunch of corrupt NFPs milking the system and lining their pockets with unrestricted private and cash donations. Be smart people. Don't donate cash. Let them live off their government grants

I disagree totally with you . I does matter who is in that position . Running a newspaper and being DJ does not qualify you as a major concert promoter dealing with major recording acts and managing a concert venue. The Stanley needs a successful concert promoter from outside this area that has a major success record in major venues. This area cannot afford some local wannabe whose intentions are good but has no clue what to do. Getting donations and grants only keeps the local wannabes employed and does not fix the problem. Unqualified people in places they should no be in has destroyed this area.

Interesting how the OD has failed to report what's going on at the Stanley. Gee, ya think it has anything to do with the fact that Queen Donovan sits on the board? Nah!

Buy tickets for what? I just looked at the upcoming schedule. Who books this crap? There isn't one upcoming event that will draw a decent crowd. Beer tasting? Gimme a break! A couple years ago I went with a couple friends to see Hot Tuna at the Stanley. The place was mobbed. If the snobs who are running the Stanley would take their head out of their aszes & book some decent acts instead of beer tasting events maybe the Stanley could survive. The Stanley needs to clean house & find a board that knows what their doing.

Anybody who doesn't think the Stanley is a great place to see a show either needs their head examined or they have no taste when it comes to a gorgeous local theater. Its a landmark that deserves local support and I enjoy going there for any reason.

You have no idea what you're talking about...Jerry Kraus is as good as they get! Established bands today require a 50% deposits with a date commitment and a contract signing. So for example the Doobie Brothers charge $85,000 per show and they require a non-refundable deposit of $43,000 with a signed contract. Multiply that deposit by 12 planned shows and the Stanley would have to shell out $500,000 in non-refundable deposits to book the bands and lock in the dates, Hello? the Stanley is Broke! The Turning Stone has locked all the band business up because they have very deep pockets and the non-refundable deposits are peanuts for them. This is the truth. The Broadway theater league productions did very little if anything to help the Stanley create a reserve account necessary to survive.

You do realize that every broken down area along the Erie Canal has one of theaters correct? There is nothing that makes the Stanley special.
