We also have beautiful gulf courses, parks, and real estate is more affordable. For the people that have graduated from College in the Health field, or education field, there are many jobs that need to be filled.

life must really suck for some people. Some of our families are so important to us that we don't really need to focus on how many fast food restaurants our city has or how much snow there is when compared to another city. Its hard to quantify what makes a place good but for most people its called family. If you ever had children you would understand that not much else matters...

This is why you people look like the retards that you are. Zero standards and you think everyone is so easily "impressed' as you literal losers.
Just a joke buddy! I left there years ago and have no intention of ever stepping a foot anywhere near there!!! Best decision made.....

I complain a lot about the political in this area, about high taxes, failing infrastructure, public sector unions, cronyism and all the rest. That doesn't mean that I don't think that there are some good things.

I think the people of this area on the whole are some of the most generous around even though the area is economically depressed. A lot of the food in the area is top notch and there is really something for everyone weather-wise.

Many on Topix describe people like me as negative because we call it as we see it. Politics and politicians have made New York State and this area the rotten place it has become. Not the people. As long as downstate dominates the legislature and as long as the people of this area keep electing the same old recycled candidates it isn't going to change either. Unfortunately for those who like the good things about this area, the best and brightest producers are leaving in droves never to return nano or not.

Spot on. Unfortunately the politics will never change. I see 2 reasons for this. The first is this is the northeast where even reps. are dems. and dems. are, well I'll be nice. The second is that cesspool ball and chain around our neck called n.y.c. It should be it's own state. If that could EVER happen the rest of the state would recover. We could then elect the people we want and hold them more accountable. As long as n.y.c. is there we are doomed.

You are so right. It is our "family" and close friends that keep us living in Utica. At least it does me along with the fact I own my own house.

You mean poverty and no way out is what keeps you there. Nobody who gets out to see better places [ie not WORST in the US!] wouldn't stay there. You must not get out much otherwise you wouldn't be "proud" you owned a "house" and paid to live there.

Sad when people can't even admit the truth to themselves.

Nothing is done well in Utica. They have zero standards and get defensive and lie when confronted about it.

You moved away and look how lonely you are. If life is so much better outside of utica why do you spend all of it on topix? Life is what you make of it - I had an amazing childhood, made great friends and had countless experiences that I would never trade with any kid living in some rich suburb. It seems like your life must have been pretty rough in Utica but don't assume everyone had such a bad time. Kids can be mean, did you get picked on?

You seem to be the one with the ASSuming problem.

I'm hardly lonely few affluent people are that's a double edged sword.
My life wasn't 'rough" in Utica I got to visit for the summers as a kid. So "rough" huh?

Try not to sound so shallow.

I don't think you understand the meaning of the world shallow. Can you try to punctuate better Mr. affluent used car salesmen? Your constant run on sentences remind me of my third grader's homework.

Sad is when someone like you can't accept what is "truth" for some people. You, of course, seem to think you can dictate to another their reason for where they are living. Well Mr. know-it-all, it is quite clear that you have no ties to anyone. Depending on what stage of life someone is at. Perhaps they have young children and would like to have a relationship with grandparents. Maybe they are caring for elderly parents themselves. Sometimes people make sacrifices, and when the time is right they may relocate, or simply be content with their lives. Something you have no concept of. I don't live in poverty, and have a way out IF I choose too. I choose not to. Moving out of the city, gives me the peace of country living, but yet I can still be there for my family. You clearly are the one who is stuck in a miserable rut you call life.
