As a former Utican who left in 1999 why haven't things changed? It deeply saddens me as there is so much the Mohawk Valley can offer. The food, history, lots of greenspace, people, etc.. I live in California now but when a comment in the article states that a $125,000 house pays about $6,000 in prop taxes that is wrong. My 4 year old home in the SF Bay Area is assessed at $390,000 and I pay $5,200 in taxes.

I have no idea currently how city roads are since the last time I visited Utica was in April 2009 but here in CA there is road construction & repaving, even beautification on state & federal hwys and city & country roads. I'm talking hundreds of projects just in the Bay area. All within the past 3 years.

the article...

comment from Utica mayor...

"The mayor of Utica, N.Y., David Roefaro, also appeared in the same five-minute segment with Engen. Utica is also among the 22 cities Moody's considers to be at risk of a double-dip recession.

As with Missoula, Utica's economy is also rosier than portrayed, Roefaro said, and that community is in the process of great things, including developing its harbor."

my comment...you mean the harbor they were discussing 20 years ago? Great things??? How about jobs that pay more than $9.50 an hour so that Uticans can have better than a little above poverty lifestyle.

I agree with everything you say about Utica. However, the state of California is certainly a poor benchmark for economic Nirvana. California is on the verge of bankruptcy, issuing IOU's to pay for goods and services, because of massive spending and borrowing. California's uppity lifestyle is a mirage created by bankers and globalist financiers. The Chinese own more of California than Californians.

rofaro was too busy with his face stuck up chuckie schumers and bloomfaces ass. They probably told him they had a place for him if he stuck with maig. In the meantime utica, which he was supposed to be mayor of, sunk even farther into the abyss.
