Most of the Cornhill Bears you can find in either OCJ or the state prison system.

In 1966 I played for the Utica Packers. We played the S.U. Tigers at Murnane Field. I had a sack and fumble recovery. It was my best game, in my football career! We won 34-0. We went on to the championship game. Tigers were in their first year.

It's a shame the city no longer subsidizes critical child development programs like Pop Warner, which is a far greater return on investment then our current Public Safety expenditure.

WOW! Glad I found this site....I played for the South Utica Tigers 67-69. Tom Hevers was the head coach along with Phil Bengston, Larry Mcabe and the dreaded "Tarz". I played with some great kids like Chris Ruhm, the Doughrties, Ronnie Dunn and others.
In 67 I was on the 2nd string left end, in 68 the same but 1st string and in 69 the starting QB.
Many happy memories of th parkway, practice and games. I go back every once in a awhile and bring a football and go back in time.
Thanks Tom!

I played on the last South Utica team, in 1979. We were pretty awful. I think we had one win. The coach, I believe, was named Amarosa and he played his kid at quarterback instead of a much better kid who was relegated to the 3rd Quarter Team. We won the one game 14-7 or so scoring both touchdowns in the 3rd quarter. The most memorable thing was having to run up the hills at the Parkway during practice.

The team folded, thankfully, and I went to play for New Hartford as I lived just a couple of blocks away from NH, and it was the exact opposite. We rarely lost. Then I played for area high schools -- Utica Free Academy was a lot of fun; we had an undefeated JV team one year -- but I realized when I left Utica that a 5-7 person is considered short, so converted to lacrosse in college.

I have various pics somewhere of team photos.

Andrea Pearson was the man back in the day he played for the Tiger Cats when I played for Cornhill. From 1979 to 1984.
