I doesn't matter what level; the coaches pick their W'town favorites over any good playing MD kid. They pick their friends kids and the coaches kids are always going to be picked. Nepotism lives.
You sound like someone who never played or coached anything above romper-room level sports. The reality is that every team will have a player that is there due to obligation. It may be family, neighbor, milf, or just plain ass-kissing. But, if your kid didn't get picked its b/c coaches know what a pain in the azz parent you are, or he just KP; as in can't play. Coaches all want to win.

Bill, calm down. Talent will eventually prevail. Lived it and still living it. Don't agree with it and never will. Not just the picks, but the entire process and coaching mind set. V is a joke, JV not much better, and Mod had some questionable picks as well. There will always be kids that come up short. Sorry it was your kid, but TOPIX is nothing more than a forum for haters.

Why were you there ? Do you know how each kid performed ? Granted its a 4 day process and that's not enough but if the kid is off he's cut. There were kids that came back and couldn't hit. Some couldn't field the ball and others didn't hustle. So why is the joke on the coaches ?

I find it funny that some kids play just fine...then, someone's else's kid tries out, and replaces the good player. Seen it many times. And, the new kid is usually a friend of the coach. I saw a kid a couple years ago, at a lower level, go like 1 for 31, and he was never sat to give another player a chance. Unreal. His older brother was a good player, and it seemed this kid was getting his chance based on a brother's success, not his talent. Just saying.

HIT? Hitting 10 rubber balls in a batting cage one day when the ball is coming in at their knees doesn't show hitting ability.
Coaches don't even realize they are being used by their "friends"

My son didn't even bother to try out for modified. Hearing from past problems, he felt he didn't have a chance among those who have an in with the coaches.

Modified seems to keep all the upper coaches kids and friends together and JV ends up being no better. Doesn't matter if you can't hit past the pitcher as well as it doesn't matter if you bat 170 for the season because you got 2 homeruns! Only matters if you know the coach or if your kid is friends with theirs. Coaches with kids in the school shouldn't be allowed to help pick teams. No matter what is done, you cannot get past the Biasim they are going to have.

Coaches who have kids in the school should not be allowed to help pick teams. No matter what you do, there is nepotism. Doesn't matter if these kids are just ok, compared to others that are better. They parents have their in so their kids can be part of the team.

If they want to win they should pick the best players, and some of their "friends" parents are the PIAs.

No, but the kids were. Some that couldn't field the ball were the same ones that made it this year and were entitled to make it again. They are not better nor hustled more than some of the kids there that got cut. I'm not trying to whine over things, it is just too bad that because adults don't know how to be fair and honest, kids suffer

So the coaches should not have friends? You make no sense.

Kids know who can play and who can't. We call this cutting themselves to save face. Then Mommy can bitch about the process and cry about injustices. Stick to scouting.

No parents were at any of the tryouts. Nice try.

I like all the experts with their opinions. You weren't at the tryouts but you have an opinion? Based on what? Your opinion was crafted because your kid got cut. It helps you sleep at night. Spend some time with your kid and they might be better.

Or kids who's parents know someone. Half the W'boro baseball teams have nothing to do with who can play or who can't.

They just win at the HS level in spite of your uninformed opinions.
