What do the following businesses have in common?

American Airlines
General Motors
Harley Davidson
Lexmark
Staples
US Airways
Delta Airlines
Penn Central
Pacific Gas & Electric
San Bernadino California
Stockton Ca
ETC, ETC, ETC

and the list goes on.

The contributing factors in ALL cases always comes down to "legacy" costs (IE Union pension & retirement costs). Unions at one time were an excellent tool for fair bargaining for both the employee and employer. However, as the years rolled on, their power and greed created a stranglehold on many business and municipalities....the result of which is bankruptcy. What union in their right mind would vote to reject the Hostess management final offer knowing that (in doing so would result in) 18,000 people would lose their jobs?

Bad management may have been a big part of it but the unions did their damage too. Heard a news story that claimed the Hostess trucks that delivered the Twinkies could not deliver bread and other items due to a union requirement. How does that make sense? Then everyone wonders why companies go over seas.

I have worked many good paying jobs as well as worked hard running my own business.I also had a job in a union shop hard work was not a requirement.Unions were fine when it was about protecting workers. when it turned into how much money for the least amount of work they failed .Unions are a dying breed you bums are gonna have to work again . sorry to use that four letter word on you good luck.

In 2011, the union membership rate--the percent of wage and salary workers who
were members of a union--was 11.8 percent, essentially unchanged from 11.9
percent in 2010, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. The number
of wage and salary workers belonging to unions, at 14.8 million, also showed
little movement over the year. In 1983, the first year for which comparable union
data are available, the union membership rate was 20.1 percent and there were
17.7 million union workers.

When ever People in this Country complain about Unions, It reminds me that almost 90% of the Country is Not in a Union.
Is it any wonder there are So Many living below the Poverty Line?
Is it really surprising to anyone that we have individual rates of indebtedness unparalleled any where in the Civilized World?
Go ahead, join the Race to the Bottom, bust the last of the Unions and we can ALL be Broke together.

This Country deserves Everything Ronald Reagan brought us, The War on Labor, the abolition of affordable College, and a blind hatred of Our Government.

The reason why so many American companies outsourced jobs overseas the last 20 years is because of unions

Without a doubt unions cost more jobs than they save. What's sad is most unions have a adviserial relationship with company's and cause disgruntling employees

No, actually it is due to our pitifully low tariffs, why produce anything here when you can produce it in a Country where you can use Slave Labor, Pollute all you like, and then import your product into the U.S. with no penalty. Most Countries have Tariffs that protect their Manufacturers, We Don't, another example of Corporations lobbying to change the rules in their favor.

Oh yeah, and they have done a wonderful job of convincing Morons to blame Unions.

I can't wait until they do away with the Minimum Wage, so I can offer my services for $1 per Hour.
And when they do away with the Child Labor Laws, we can start using all those little Bastards to do all the Jobs we don't want to do. And they won't know that we are underpaying them.
And then maybe the rich people will let us eat out of their dumpsters.

We've listened to your liberal (academia) rants for far too long. By looking at the number of topics post (over 2200) that you've authored...we can most assuredly conclude that you have a far left doctrine that you follow. We shall see how you community organizer (that was just re-elected)and anti-colonialist will continue to redistribute his way out of the mess we are in. As for the definition of "Bodhisatva"...your a Buddhist...but your no Gandhi.

An enlightened being who, out of compassion, forgoes nirvana in order to save others.

You don't need to save any of us...we are onto you...you academia, socialist bloviator. My suggestion is that you spend less time on the keyboard and more time donating your expertise (whatever that may be)to a truly needy charity...and there are many. Happy Thanksgiving!
