All New York State pensions are New York State tax exempt. Just another little perk for the special class of people that's been created in the public sector.

I find that hard to believe. NYS loves to collect tax on everything.

"Military, civil-service, and New York state and local government pensions are exempt. Up to $20,000 of qualified private pensions and annuity income for people 59 1/2 and older are also exempt. Out-of-state government pensions can be deducted as part of the $20,000 exemption."

Wow good for them. No retiree should have to pay income tax on their pension. Nobody that's worked all their life and earned their pension should have it stolen by the government. I don't care what your job is public or private.

No the biggest shame is that every WORKING person doesn't get the same upon retirement. Illegals, Medicaid, etc DO NOT drag themselves out of bed every day, work all day, and have a larger and getting larger part of their check taken by the government. Instead of slamming civil WORKERS, you should fight for all workers to get the same deal and also to stop the free ride on your money. Good luck to you.

Everyone receives benefits of government throughout their entire life and therefore should pay some level of taxes. The burden should not be placed wholly on the backs of working people and businesses. This is especially true for public sector employees like teachers whose entire salary and benefits were paid for with taxpayer money.

One third of my pay is gone before I ever get to the bank because of the dependency class in this country. We all pay far more to support lazy people who don't want to work but somehow are entitled to our money. You're paying way more out to them than pse's and teachers. Look around you- what do most Utica neighborhoods look like? They ain't full of teachers!

Especially welfare and Medicaid. You get free food, housing, insurance, phone, cable, taxi service, air conditioning...you name it. As a bonus you somehow are able to still buy cigs and alcohol too. All this, courtesy of the American taxpayer and you don't have to work until you're 55 or 65 to collect it.
