The dog owners did not establish a pecking order. The dog thought he was higher in the pack. Guess not... The dog doesn't deserve to die for the stupidity of humans.

I'm not blaming the kid. The parents should have been paying attention.

We made sure our dogs knew they ranked below the grand kids when they come over. They allow them to take the tennis ball right out of their mouths! You don't have to work too hard at it if you have control of your dogs.

the dog prob did nothing wrong in the past ,, the family should have put him in a room when company comes over.. its sad how they throw the dog to the police ... all they had to do was put the dog in a room and bring the kid to the hospital

their was no need for the police none no one is charging anyone no one is suing its a family member who was bitten not like it was a stranger how they can gust give the dog away is beyond me... and then they show their face on the news .. maybe its better that the dog be given to another family because they didn't get the dog its shots goes to show you how responsible they are cant even get the dog his shots

The hospital is required to report dog bites, among other things. And people wonder why some refuse to get help. Some of our laws are counter-productive. The intentions were good,but...

Shelties are great with kids. Theres no way that dog bit that kid without being provoked somehow, it may have been a complete accident like she stepped on a paw or tripped over him, and his only way to respond was by a bite, its not like he can talk.

I had a sheltie, he was so good with my neice. The day she came home from the hospital he immediately latched on to her. She was his girl, where ever she was you would find him. Where ever she slept, he slept, beside the bed or under the bassinet, where ever. If grandma was holding her, hed be next to the chair. When she started walking and would be outside, if she started heading for the road he herded her back up the driveway. That dog would have stopped a bullet or jumped in front of a car to keep her safe. I really find it hard to believe a dog of this breed would bite a kid, or anyone, without cause, especially someone they know.

I hope they save the little guy. He doesn't deserve to die. How many chances do we give the human population to murder and mutilate and we don't put these animals down. Obviously, they aren't retrainable since a good portion are repeat offenders. This poor guy can't make 1 mistake?

hospitals are only required to report dog bites if you tell them you were bitten. Not all bites are obvious so if its not obvious and you care about the dog, why tell them? I wouldn't if it was an accident and it wasn't typiclly an aggressive dog, and of course, wasn't an obvious bite. Some random dog that I don't know its vaccination/bite history, yeah I probably would.

i bet if this situation happened to one of the judges political cronies it would have been slap on the wrist fine for not having shots up to date but not death.sounds like some tough guy judge.

Pretty tough to explain to the next victim that "now we'll kill this dog" as the last time it bit someone, the dog was just given a warning. C'mon people, it's a dog...and it injured a human. I have no problem with this...btw, our family owns 3 dogs, they are like family members (sort of)...all have run of the house and yard...i would gladly turn over the dog if it bit anyone.

Accidents happen! No need to place blame. I can't believe the girl is not now afraid of dogs? No need to further traumatize her. Tell her the dog is going to live a happy life at mouseville and then put it to sleep.

You can't take the "animal" out of an animal! I have a dog and young children. I don't think our dog would ever bite anyone but he is an animal. Their behavior cannot be fully predicted. However if he bit my daughter in the face and it required stitches there would be no question on the dogs fate. The judge made the right decision. How could anyone allow the possibility of the dog biting again! Seriously! My children will always come before any animal.

Consider the source. The judge here is about 100 years old and senile as hell ! This guy should have a complete competency hearing. He doesn't know what day of the week it is, let alone dispense justice.
I would NOT follow that order.

I think...... They Made such a big deal about this dog bite. There was a 911 call. They had to take the kid to Cooperstown I truly believe The Parents caused a lot of unnecessary DRAMA. Dogs bite , especially if they are resting and are startled . I'm not saying the kid was at fault she didn't know any better. No matter how friendly a dog is They are territorial, and run in pacts. He felt threatened in some way. The parents reactions probably sentenced this dog to death. Anytime authorities get involved it becomes a shit!

I bet my life this family is a bunch of Italians who made the situation WORSE
