Why does WKTV chop off the sides of the picture during their newscasts? Also, why is the picture so blurry and soft? Every other station in the area off my antenna fills the screen and has a crystal clear picture. The newscast on WUTR is just outstanding, but they don't have news in the morning and at noon. All the Syracuse channels also fill the screen and are much clearer.

It's 2013 WKTV, not 1953. I thought you were the "Most Experienced" and Number 1 station? Why is your product so sub-standard???

That doesn't fix the problem. Then my set stretches all the other channels out. Plus it doesn't fix the blurriness. The problem is on WKTV's end.

The picture is clear but completely lacks sharpness. WUTR, WFXV, WSTM, WSYT, WSYR, WTVH and even WSPX all fill the screen and look crisp and sharp. During prime time, WKTV fills the screen and even during some of their promos. Only during newscasts does it cut off and go dull.

Don't you have something important that you can complain about?

Not a complaint as much as a concern as to why the issue exists? No one has provided an answer as to why WKTV is the only station that has this issue.

I called and asked WKTV why this is, and they told me they have no plans to invest in the equipment needed to convert their newscast to wide screen high definition in the foreseeable future. They would have to update all of their 1990's era cameras and everything else in order to give us a newscast with a modern day picture and modern quality. Most all the other stations in the US have already converted to high definition, or at least enhanced definition. WKTV will wait another decade until they are able to purchase used equipment when other stations update and sell off their old stuff. Afterall, WKTV was the last station in the US to ditch 16mm film for videotape back in the 1980's. I am confident they will also hold the record for being last to switch to high definition widescreen.

The reason the picture lacks sharpness and has the sides cropped is because WKTV has decided not to broadcast the news in HD. The are obviously capable of doing so as their promos are run in HD. Why in this day and age they chose to use an SD 4:3 format is beyond me. HD has been around for a decade now.

This is about the WKTV news program. The news program is not full screen and not HD. Network programming is full screen HD. Some of their promos and local commercials are full screen HD. The issue here is why is WKTV not upgrading their newscast when every other station already has. They are always the last to do anything and are severly behind the times.

It matters when you actively tout your the "most experienced" and push your station as the best in the area. Did anyone watch the recent telethon? It was horrible. When everything is HD now and you have to watch SD, it's just painful.

No. WSTM, WSYR, WTVH, and even WSYT for awhile were all doing news. WUTR/WFXV got back into the game just last year. WSYT no longer has a newscast, but all the others do and ALL the others are either in HD or Widescreen. WKTV is the only station in two markets that is 4:3 SD. That should give you an idea of how far behind the times they are.

I did. I watch WUTR News now. Much more professional and polished. Only suffer through KTV in the AM for the weather. I'm merely addressing the issue of why WKTV appears as it does from a technical standpoint.
Wanna bet when the finally do go HD that they make a big deal out of it?

Let's not forget that WKTV was the absolute last station to convert from 16mm film to videotape. Not changing from 4:3 SD to modern day 16:9 HD would be like not changing from black and white to color back in the 50's.
