We need to stop with all these girls teams. AKA: Lightning, BobCats, Herricans, etc. Youth hockey is hurting in numbers enough, and organizations are now talking mergers because we are starting girls teams. If they wanna play hockey then play hockey. You don't see anyone starting a "all-boys" team. Enough already.

The only organizations I know of having trouble fielding teams are Utica who have always had difficulty, and Whitestow, and that has nothing to do with girls teams, they chase them away.

All girls teams are not taking away numbers from the youth hockey leagues. The purpose of the girls teams was to encourage more girls to join the sport. Many parents wouldn't allow their daughters to play hockey if it weren't for girls teams; and the parents who don't mind usually allow their daughters to play on boys teams until they are no longer competitive.

This is just more whitestown whining because we screwed up their program. We allowed a few obnoxious people to rub many parents the wrong way and many left (MANY like 20). Their are major problems, and until the way the org is run changes people will continue to leave. And those of us who have, will stay away. I would love to come back to whitestown, but all the reasons we left still exist. It is, to say the least, a pain driving to another town for practice, but not as aggravating as dealing with the BS here.

When the mommies and daddies stop the drunk fests after every game and practice things will get better, until then the programs will continue to suck. The talentless kids that are playing every period, inning and quarter are the kids of the party hosts, nothing more.

For the record, I am from New Hartford, and it is effecting organizations like New Hartford & Clinton & Whitesboro.
If these girls wanna play hockey, what gives them the right to make "idependant" teams??
If effects everyone. Either play with the boys or go play field hockey.

By the Peewee level the majority of the girls drop out because they check.
By the way every parent has the right to allow their child to play in any organization for any reason they choose, USA Hockey dosen't own or pay for our municipal arenas, and the independent teams have every bit as much right, to rent ice time as anyone else.

Why do the people on the board think that their authority is inclusive over these teams, if their is comingling of funds between leagues then that is a legal, or contractual issue. although I can not see how a board could possibly serve the interests of independent , and usa hockey leagues, major conflict there.

Yu obviously do not have enough, or the proper information, or you would not make such a statement. Some parents encourage rough play at the lower levels, where it is not allowed, there have been discussions on here

http://www.topix.com/forum/city/utica-ny/TJHR...

And there is another major problem, with a whitestown player, who inappropriately hits the girls. It appears he is encouraged to.
Are you saying that our girls do not have the right to play in our own venue free of the Neanderthal attitudes that some have about 6-9 year olds and how they perceive the game should be played, I for one, and I know I speak for a few of us "Go Field hockey" We play without any of your politics, or BS on the independent teams.

I'll pay extra just to circumvent the politics.
I'm so tired of watching the coaches kids eat up all the ice time, especially the ones who wouldn't have made the team, had their father not been coaching. Pick the team first then pick the coaches. Noone with a child eligible for a team should participate in the tryout process.

I have a grandaughter that plays hockey and she is 9 years old, her brother who is 11 also plays youth hockey. I would love to see her play on an all girls team before she gets to the age where they can check and hit like her brothers team, some of the kids are big and I see girls getting hurt playing with the boys, one in a Syracuse-New Hartford game had to be taken away in an ambulance just because some big kid cheap shot her. Girls should play with girls.

Girls have the right to play on an all girls team. The Bobcats 10u team played in the snowbelt league at the squirt level (against the boys) and finished with an 11-9 league record. There were no other options for the Whitestown girls to play on this team because there were not enough players to field a squirt house team in Whitestown. This was indirectly caused by the numbers lost to the Coyotes independent team. There is no one to blame for this. The Coyotes formed their team to better their players which allowed these girls to explore an all girls option. The Bobcats wouldn't have changed this year for anything.

Heard there is to be a 97 team in New Hartford, How bad do you have to screw up an organization, how much favortism, dose it take until everyone who can find a way gets away.

Lets see Whitesboro 2000 team, 1996 team,New hartford Girls 10u girls, and now a 1997 team.

Parents have EVERY right to put their daughters in an all girls program. PLAY WITH THE BOYS OR GO HOME? HELLO! We have women's college teams and an olympic program. Girls play hockey with other girls ALL THE TIME!

What happened? Did one of them dangle on your son? Get over it!

Are you serious? Sounds like your jealous...there is probably one girl on your kids team that skates circles around your little girly boy. Maybe your boy should put a skirt on and play field hockey. Also, can you please explain how it "effects everyone"?
