had a huge one and showed it off! You could buy acid at Grace church, panhandle at woolworths, and monday nites were great! lots of girls, hippie kids at oneida square, that one year-it was like the 50's all over again. all sorts hanging out. Neba roast beef, Vyners, UFA, Kewpies. The nutty girl who used to chase cab drivers, the B&W cab jobs,The owner would send you in a new car on a good payer job, get you stoned with a hot chick, he paid off, then gave you a crappy car to use after.
Lee, what the freak are you on???

Wasn't everywhere a pleasant experience in the 60's? All I hear is how nice it was to live in the 60's in so many different places by so many people. Could it be perhaps be that we lost our "innocents" in the late 60's and our country went to crap and still is in a downward spiral? I never lived in the 60's, im only 26, however the best years I lived was in the late 90's and pre 9/11.
No, not everything was great in the '60's. Vietnam was raging, and we lost a lot of good men there.

My biggest memory of Downtown was Christmas Season as I as one of the Boy Scouts on Pedestrian Patrol with a 6 foot pole and an orange flag on the end to keep people on the curbs at the intersections. The snow, decorations, atmosphere; that was christmas!

There was a Head Shop near Balls card shop. I think it was called Middle East. You walked up a flight of stairs, walked through a beaded doorway, entered into a darkened room with incence burning. It sold all kinds of weird stuff. Was a great store!

Yes, I remember that. I was 14 when I moved to Utica in 69 and I went there with a friend from UFA. The first thing that hit you was the incense. There were posters on the walls as you walked up the stairs.

I remember listening to people on the steps of the Grace Episcopal church reading the names of those who had died in Vietnam that week. I was a teenager, but it made quite an impression on me.

And as im sure some troll will trash my comment and our memories of such a nice city .. so to that troll or trolls . GFY

Remeber Shaleys pizza, Lauries Pizza in New Hartford, Glasier Isle ices, Red Barn, A&P on 1501 Genesee Street, The Uptown Theater of which I lived across the street on Emerson Ave from 66-73. Addison Miller Swimming Pool, Pin-O-Rama Bowling, Hughes School, Visting Oriskany Battlefield. It was great growing up but when I visted ny old neighborhood in 2002 my whole block looked like an advertisement for Section 8 Housing. While there my block was a solid middle class neighborhood and I have even looked via Google maps and the homes are even more disgusting...
