So, in NYC, Syracuse and every other city you can enter the police station. But not in Utica. This administration gives comedy fodder to people. You could NOT make this stuff up.

“My goal is to not have any civilians down at the police department – for safety reasons,” he said.
This move won’t affect police officers’ ability to access records, LaBella said

Boy, you folks really need to get a grip.

St. Elizabeth Hosp. announces their intention to not allow any sick people into the hospital, for health reasons.
The move will not affect doctors ability to charge you, but this way no one who works at the hospital will run the risk of getting sick from the patients.
In another move, Labella states the UFD ambulance service will no longer pick up the ill or injured.
Appearing at a news conference with Russ Brooks, both agreed since there is no hospital to bring the sick people to, there is no sense having an ambulance service.
Meanwhile, the UPD union officials have deemed the police station to be unsafe, so everyone will no report to city hall to pick up the patrol cars. LB Security will be making regualr patrols to safeguard everything.

And you wonder if maybe there is something in the water up here. If someone finds any signs of intellegent life in this administration please call the any news media.

How bad does this Mayor lose by in the next election, and short of a mass murdering pedophile running for sheriff, does Labella have a chance?

This is the most unneeded waste of time and money in a long time. I'm regularly in and out of courts and public safety buildings with my job and have NEVER had an issue where I'm in fear for my safety. This sounds like just another smokescreen to provide another layer of unaccountability between the current administration and the public. Who's watching this pack of do-gooders?

I wonder if we could get an accounting of just how many incidents have occurred involving civilians just stopping by for an accident report.

You'd need to educate someone on the word "accounting" or "accountability".
dumb idea

No, an accounting of the incidents (number of) is quite a good idea. Since the place opened in the 1920's how many people have been hurt by someone turning themselves in? This is a crap idea made by people who have something to hide. Then when a new administration takes over, more money will be spent to "open up" the police station to make it friendly to the public.

God, they had a police cadet program for years, courts upstairs, DA's office, everything, never knew we had so many brushes with death.

Thanks Dan, wonder how your dad survived all those years on the force without you!!!

I meant accounting--totalling up; listing of; number of. Why wouldn't that be a good idea.

It's a Public building and must remain open to the public. It would appear that there is something more going on here, just not sure of what.

Easy, when someone gets the crap kicked out of them, who is to know. I heard that years ago A Deputy named Fraccola kicked the crap out of a kid in his office, it was a "civillian" who let the cat out of the bag. And this happens quite often. This city is slowly taking on the look of the middle ages.

Yup, close up the police station for the public's safety, you don't need to see what happens behind the curtain, move along folks, nothing to see here.

Were this not actually happening, it might be funny.

Is there anyone out there listening in the State or Federal Government who isn't connected to this group and might step in and help us. Innocent people are being harmed. Anyone who interferes with the interests of Arcuri, LaBella and Company gets set up and taken out. They set up innocent people and label criminals and, they have the network locally and through the State to get that label to stick. This action (closing the police station to the public) is more than it appears.

There is a back story to this latest stunt. What is it?

It has to be closed to the public. Otherwise everyone will see what a cluster fk the so called mayor, fat slob safety commish and the rest of his cronies have caused. Can you imagine what the COUNTY would look like if that fool had gotten the Sheriff's position? Look what has happened just since he's "acted" chief of UPD. Next it will be city hall. This man has to be by far the dumbest person that ever drew a breath of life. I can't imagine anyone being foolish enough to think that some of the problems in city are not a direct result of the sloppy politics by Ruffie and company. Maybe they should pull their heads out of "Funeral Monthly", and "How to design on the taxpayer dime", and start doing some real work. We need to stop bickering about "give LaBella a chance" and crap like that and face the facts. They are making this city more of a laughing stock. They all need to go. Bunch of ass clowns.

I must agree with the decision to limit the public from coming to the police dept. The records division is primary to get copies of routine reports(Accident,Insurance reports etc)This can still be done at another location(city hall). The police station is still open to the public to report a crime, by limiting the liability of a dangerous person coming in contact with the public is smart.I witnessed a innocent civilian just waiting for a copy of a report get injured by a criminal at the police station. GREAT MOVE UTICA

Was this incident made public? Was there a report written? I don't remember hearing anything about the injured civilian. I'm not questioning your integrety, but I'd like some verification. Why is the UPD parading potentially dangerous individuals through public access serviceways when the proper proceedure is to come through the secure accessway?
