A recent Remington manager that I know told me that the company is recommending that if you want a job in Alabama you should apply for ASAP. As you know the 1911 and Bushmaster lines are going to Alabama in July. Gone with up to 200 jobs.
Did you know that Remington was seriously looking at the MDS plant in East Herkimer to expand its manufacturing facilities? That possibility went bye bye with the NYS Safe Act.
Then you have the Herkimer Co legislature stating that Remington might build a training facility in Frankfort on land know as the "Pumpkin Patch".
What a pathetic and stupid thing to say. The place is a joke! So they are going to train new employees and send them to Alabama. Get Real!

While I think the Safe Act was a factor I don't think it was a major one. If Remington Ilion could still generate the same or more revenue for its' owners then the jobs would remain in Ilion. The problem is much deeper and more complicated than the Safe Act.
Remington like any other for-profit business exits to earn profits for the owners. It doesn't exist to create jobs or to make sure that employees can live a particular lifestyle or achieve a certain level of wealth. That said, those in control are going to do business in whatever place offers the best atmosphere for making money. Ilion, NY with it's union, environmental regulations and high state taxes is not that. Huntsville, Alabama is.
