My company has purchased a building in downtown Utica, and I pulled the short straw. I'll be moving from Long Beach, California with my build crew at the beginning of September to open a club, restaurant, and lounge; my problem is that I'm not from the area. I could really use feedback from people who live there as to what kind of entertainment you want. Here are some ideas we're kicking around, tell us which ones you like best. A Tiki Bar with tropical theme, sand floors, fancy mixed drinks and jacuzzi's. A Jazz lounge with Latin fusion, dancing, Carribean and Mexican food in the restaurant. Retro 80's and 90's bar and dance club for the over 30 crowd. Country and Western bar and line dance club. A douche bag post-grundge club. Singles/meatmarket club with live entertainment and contests. Other ideas are welcome, and thanks in advance for your input.

we don't like outsiders, particularly from california, you will fail as your company should not be buying buildings without visiting them I will see to it you do not get a permit. Come on, "bringing your own crew" keep the illegals home, I'll be watching

Your coming to Utica and want to open a club in downtown Utica. Are you crazy. There are no places to park downtown. This is simply a business area basically government workers. All the small resturants are open only during lunch time and close at 2pm. After 5pm downtown is a ghost area. No one is downtown on Sat or Sunday because nothing is open.

Good luck with your concepts but who ever is your company that you work for will realize it will be a business loss.

You should open a gay disco club. Cater to the gays.

Picking a fight without meeting a person is unwise and rude. However, I agree most Californians are worthless and I don't blame you for trying to protect your city from them. BTW I saw the building in March and I believe it will suit our purpose.

WE DO NOT USE ILLEGAL LABOR! In fact, most of our work force will be hired locally. As for your threat to block our permits, if you had that kind of power you wouldn't be making idle threats about it on a public forum.

Right now we are leaning toward that or a country/western club. Utica has several country stations, but we haven't been able to find any clubs that cater to that genre.

For someone to stop permits is easy, so be careful. This is not the west coast, I suggest you learn the game here before you invest...good luck, you'll need it

Thank you for the good advice. We have been in contact with city and county officials (who were the ones that encouraged us to buy the building). The fact is, we could make a nice profit by demolishing the building and selling it brick by brick if all else fails.

Are Snoop Dogg and Dre going to be at the grand opening? Get real! Not only is downtown Utica a ghost town at night, it is practically a ghost town during the day. The city has a 90 percent vacancy rate, two of the 3 tallest buildings have been unoccupied for decades except on the first two floors, and the places which get the most action are the foodbank and Salvation Army thrift shop (and the train/bus station). Not only that, but nobody in Utica works, especially the people who are going to visit a nightclub that caters to a gangsta rap audience. Your business venture will fail miserably and you'll lose a lot of money.

Why would you come on this forum and mess with us. Uticans are extremely limited, poor people. Most of them can't even afford basic necessities like food and clothing, and yet you are making fun of us. You must be the kind of person who laughs out loud when you see retarded people.
