Look up the history of the Calgary Flames AHL team
In 2003 they were in New Foundland
In 2005 they were in Mass
In 2007 they were in Nebraska
In 2009 they were in Illinois
Today they are in British Columbia and supposedly in talks with a group from Utica NY discussing whether they should break their contract with their current city and move to Utica.
Does this sound like a perfect match for our city that currently enjoys a relationship with Utica College, the D-3 Hockey team that leads the nation in attendance, and currently in first place with the best overall record, and provides AFFORDABLE family entertainment?
I guess you are going to post the same thing in every thread. Btw...it's already done folks. See you at the aud!

Its not done. The MV aud auth would never make a deal with a team with such a poor track record of keeping their word to the community they rape.

You should be proud that our governing body would make a deal with such unscrupulous ownership. It would so go along with the history in this area of bad deals made. Im surprised that EDGE wasn't involved, it was such a bad deal.

It's not unscrupulous ownership. The flames need a better situation. Their travel costs are through the roof. Most people don't realize that for abbotsford to gain admission to the ahl they had to agree to pay for the costs incurred by teams in their division to travel out west. Abbotsford is the most travelled team in the league. With increased travel time comes not only increased costs, but less practice time.more travel time also leaves less rest time. It is also a fact that abbotsford is the most injured team in the league. Calgary feels they need to do this for the betterment of their franchise. Abbotsford will not be left out in the dark however. They are in the heart of Canuck country there. The Canucks affiliate relationship expires with the Chicago wolves at the end of this season. Do the math there.

Here's the math, Einstein. Calgary has needed to move "for the betterment of the franchise"
5 times in the last 9 years. Do that math. How long do you think utica will keep them?

Affiliations move all the time "Einstein" in the ahl. That's the nature of the beast "Eisenstein". Do you even realize "Einstein" that the Syracuse crunch are with their 5th NHL team already "Einstein".

If people support this team the affiliations may move but the team will be stable.

Also to further this. Does anyone in utica actually realize that Albany lost the devils affiliation in 2006 and became the farm team for Carolina? I'm sure there is a few but not the " einstein" who posted above I'm sure. Now guess who's back in Albany? The devils again. Affiliates come in go in the ahl. It's up to the public and ownership to make the franchise viable.

I think everyone in the MV is familiar with the "comings and goings" of pro hockey. We have lived those. We are done with them.

Well you have a choice this fall then. You can go or not. The team will however be there.

Alot of these movements are not because of the parent club but the ownees of the ahl team that are looking for better players and a winning team. Sometimes a change in the parent club will cause renewed excitement in fans attendance.

It isn't incumbent upon people to support the team. The responsibility lies with the team to offer a great experience for the money spent. If the team does their job the crowds should be there.

And I've said that. It's up to the ownership and the fans. Ill use this example. Tha Tampa rays put out an excellent team year after year. No one still goes to the games. There issue is far from an owner problem however.

It's frustrating. Lol. They have no idea how the league works yet the new owners are stupid, people won't go, ticket prices are too high, and they'll just leave in their opinions.

It is difficult to change someone's mind who has gone through several ownerships of pro hockey in this Utica area. I attended Clinton Comet Hockey Games in the Clinton Arena during the Eastern Hockey League Days. Indian Joe Nolan, Norm DeFelice, Ian Anderson, etc.
I held season tickets when the comets first moved to the Utica Aud, and right up through the Utica Devils. I enjoyed most of it, but as each enterprise leaves it takes its toll.
Therefore, I can see why some posters here are defensive of UC hockey,(I enjoy an occasional game).
They want hockey for families, but something they can afford. And, they want something they can cheer for each and every year.

This story about an AHL franchise coming to Utica again is especially hard to swallow for anyone who remembers when the Devils were here and the circumstances surrounding them leaving.
They left and went to Albany for a larger venue and larger fan base. If you look back at the last few years the Utica Devils played at the Aud they were averaging between 2200 and 2400 a game attendance. That's a lot of empty seats. Many of us were there for that. Lou Lamoriello wanted bigger, better and more money. That's why they left. Here we are 10+ years later with less population and a worse economy and you are trying to say that another team would relocate to Utica knowing that it would be a losing proposition and that NHL teams don't care if their AHL affiliates make money or not? It just doesn't track and doesn't make any sense at all.
