I loved how the OD yesterday put this in “The federal reductions to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Pro¬gram, commonly known as food stamps, have been pinching the roughly 17,400 Oneida County fam¬ilies who rely on it.” I guess they were never behind someone using food stamps. There usually is not that much nutritional in their basket.

Why would you sit and clock the garbage someone else is buying and who cares? I don't know which is scummier or leechier, getting food stamps or being jealous of it wow these utican scum are petty and shallow. You people should get your heads up out of the shxt more often there's more to life than clocking what poor people are eating. Get a life people.

They cut the wrong people. I know of a case where a gentleman is disabled, living alone, requires daily shots of medicine by a visiting nurse or health aide and all the Food Stamps he receives is $16 A MONTH!!!!!!!!

This man is white - not black. That is probably the answer to why his Food Stamps are so low!

I brought up 4 children as a Single Parent WITHOUT Food Stamps - the only "help" I got was from my paycheck that I worked 40+ hours a week for.

Today they are all grown up with families of their own and ALL have told me "we never went to bed hungry". They do NOT remember they never ate steak, or lobster, etc.-BUT- they did eat stews, casseroles, goolash, and even pancakes for supper.. There was no money in our budget for snacks like potatoe chips, etc. Cookies and other desserts were made at home out of scratch.

I remember the days when using Food Stamps was looked upon with shame. Today, it is considered an "entitlement"! Too many people would rather buy Fast Food or prepared meals with Food Stamps than to learn how to cook an economical meal.

it is all the blacks on food stamps that cause problems -- look at what they did when they thought their limits were lifted. They are thieves!

What foods do you think someone with a SNAP card should be able to buy? That's setting a really poor precedent. Should we do the same thing for seniors on Social Security? Why not extend it into other economic subsidies - any college student receiving federally subsidized student loans has to choose a list of approved courses.

Bear in mind that sometimes people with SNAP cards aren't buying wholesome foods because it is hard to find. Do a little research into urban food deserts and you'll see what I mean.

Funny. there is a WHITE family who lives in Marcy. She works full time, he owns his own business, and they make very good money. Their house is beautiful & they own two nice SUVs. Kids dress well, play an expensive sport with expensive travel required. It's not all BLACKS you ignorant racists. They are on full food stamps and Medicaid. Have been for years.

Foodstamps\SNAP will not cover the cost of fast food or prepared meals. You are incorrect.

You are incorrect - you can purchase prepared meals in the grocery store and take out items such as pizza from some fast food establishments with food stamps....

When was the last time you ever saw a grocery cart that someone using Food Stamps was buying?

I supported and fed 4 children only on my paycheck (which never seemed to stretch far enough). We ate many casseroles with hamburg that were economical, plus nutritional, and filling. There was never potatoe chips or other junk food in our house as I considered this a waste of money. Sweets were made at home - much more economical. We also NEVER ate out at any fast food places. Pizzas were made at home - much cheaper.

The Food Stamp receipants I've see have carts filled with soda, junk food and high priced cuts of meat and seafood that working people can't even afford!!!!!!

IMO - every Food Stamp receipant needs to take a course in basic nutrition and how to make Food Stamps last until the end of the month by making economical meals.

oh YES they do!!!!!!!

You can use your snap card in the Drive thru at McDonalds - I've seen someone do it.

You can also buy ready made pizzas - just throw them into the oven to heat up yourself.

If this is true, they are committing FRAUD!!!!

Food Stamps are based on household INCOME - husband (self employed) has to show his books to prove his income, and the wife's income can easily be verified.

Then something is wrong. How do they get food stamps if they both work? Just curious especially because they own a business. Maybe it's not legal. I don't have a job and I can't get food stamps.

I work for the county. SNAP does NOT cover the cost of prepared meals from a grocery store or a restaurant. You are INCORRECT!
