I miss the uptown grill in south utica. Those dark wood, high-back booths, the rickety floor, the jukebox. they had the best ham bbq plate-came with fries and salad and their italian dressing was the best. Great pies, too, but they had alot of flaky rules. You couldn't come in just for pie-you had to have it after having dinner there (can you imagine refusing to sell someone something???). Also you couldn't order pie after dinner to go-you had to eat it there. Also-if you wanted the bread toasted for your sandwich it was like an extra 5 cents. Just really flaky stuff. As soon as they moved to new hartford they lost their small, intimate, mom & pop charm & went right under. Too bad.

back in the day Lyntons on the west side and Basiles on the east side, both owned by sisters had the best food. Black Cat is the grandson of Basiles, foods ok. Lyntons was great up until it closed 2 years ago.
