I may have posted this before but does anyone remember the Imperial? It was downtown.
Yeah, I remember the Imperial. My father Marty Smith when he was Smith Packing brought me there every chance I'd get. Two brothers ran it, one was named, "Howard" same as mine. The lobster was out of this world! I'd work 12 hour days regularly driving hauling beef and that little bit of premier dining experience was all I needed. The best I can remember. Now I'm living near New Haven, CT retired from 26 years from the government. Utica has gone through a lot of changes. Recently passing through I ate at the Tailor and the Cooks,(I think that is the name?) That's the best I can compare it too.

Beyond all shadows of doubt: Nash's Restaurant on Bleecker, best veal on the planet.
Nash's had one hell of a steak sandwich ever! Utica used to have some great chef's. Now, all we have really is Joey's on Mohawk St.
Pescatore's - Nash's - old Grimaldi's,- Graziano's - Big Al's - old -old Buffalo Head - Angies Grill- Jeans Beans - Chili Hut - Joe's - Donalty's ( where today it would probably be burned down, as a female never set foot in it!) Old Tony's - the 1st Woodys wings!(on Seneca St)
and all these small bars that used to be around, all had good homemade soups and sandwich's, some really good.

My father-in-law used to talk about Donalty's all the time. He'd go in while my mother-in-law waited in the car and eat a limburger cheese sandwich topped with a big slice of onion! A few beers later my mother-in-law would drive home!

Directly across from the old post office on Main st you parked parallel- and I remember it always full of guys, drinking beers and smoking. The old man would go in while we waited in the car and come out with a stinky Limburger sandwich.

I'm pretty sure it was Donalty's and I think it was Judge Donalty's grandfathers place.

Hi Howard,
I used to work my summers at Smith Packing in college. You were as strong as a bull. I worked the freezer with Fred Ramous. Hope you are well.
