"Antee"

And if you win, do you report the income?

There's no need to call people names.

You don't have to you idiot.
You do if you win over a certain amount. I think it's $600? BUT if you have losers during the year, you can submit them at tax time to offset your winnings if you file the long form.

Thank you "julie" and "can man".
I thought it was $600. I just wondered how many would report their winnings.

And a previous poster is right. How can New Yorkers bitch and moan about high taxes, fees, etc, but turn around and spend millions on the lottery?

I think that if you really want to send the state a message, stop buying tickets and playing numbers.

You do not have the choice after and including $600.00. But, if I had the choice? never would report it. By the way "YAY-yuh" how about the taxes on gas-so called bottle deposits, now including water. Great idea! Do you know that the state recoups "projected revenue" on deposits before actually refunded?

You're right, you don't have a choice. They make you fill out a form at the lottery office before you get your winnings. We won $1,200 one time, & the 1st $300 didn't count, as they only taxed us on $900. As I've said, losing tickets bought that same year can be used to offset winnings, so it's best to keep them.

All convience stores DO NOT and WILL NOT pay out winnings over $600 plus dollars on a single winning ticket. Therefore, you have to go to Albany to claim it and fill out paperwork for taxes.
